My thoughts regarding our QB play tonight

I think Blake looked pretty good. He missed some easy throws that would have put him over 300 yards (Christian Jones is to blame as well) but played well overall.

However, we have zero vertical passing when he's in the pocket.

He was very efficient. 73% pass completion percentage.

He escaped pressure nicely and wasn't sacked once.

I still want to see Coker against live competition. He's big, strong and can stretch the field.

Bradley Sylve sucks.

Can he? I've never seen him do it.

I saw him in a practice that I was lucky enough to get to go to. He looked like a beast to me. Giant size, huge arm, and athletic. It was just a practice but I really liked what I saw.

I'm a fan of Sims after tonight. I don't think he's great but he's good enough. As far as stretching the field, that deep ball to Jones looked on point to me

I don't know why there was no zone read type stuff. I mean if Blake Sims is our QB, why not?

That deep ball to Jones was with 9 seconds to throw.

It was a perfect throw don't get me wrong.

But when are we ever gonna have that much time against SEC defenses?

Look Funky, I know you like Sims.

But we both know Coker has the better arm.

We're there any other deep passes to judge him on?

That's the point. Defenses won't respect our passing game to allow us to throw deep. They'll blitz like crazy knowing he can't see over the line.

I think he could be a very good QB if we ran a different offense.

But we have no idea if Coker can do any better. He has a stronger arm but what if his accuracy is arse?

We won't know until he gets in the game. I just think he deserves a shot to prove what he can do.

You know, sink or swim.

It's not like we knew what Sims could do before today.

If it was as close as Saban has said then give them both an equal shot over the next 2 weeks. See who's better.

I'm sure they'll both play the next two weeks. But I think it's telling that CNS went exclusively with BS tonight.

I think that if Coker had performed well enough in practices and scrimmages to gain Saban's confidence, we would have seen him.

Or, to put it another way...there obviously has been more separation between Sims and Coker than there was between McCarron and Philip Sims going into the 2011 opener.

We didnt need one tonight or maybe WVU was keeping 2 safties over the top.

Couple of time I thought Blake should have checked to a deep ball when he saw WVU crowding the box, but that will come with more experience

Close game away from home. Said a little while before the game I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sims went the distance. The competition will continue, but it'll be tough for Sims to lose it if he keeps playing like he did today. He just needs to prove he can make throws down the field. No one is saying he can't, we just haven't seen it.

Funk, we know you love you some Sims (who doesn't?), but based on Saban's comments, the competition isn't over. That said, I doubt Coker can beat Sims from here.

I will say, we're not gonna get where we want to get by throwing nothing but short throws. I'm not saying Sims can't make those throws, I'm saying I haven't seen it. I'm also saying I haven't seen it from Coker either.

After today, I think Sims is gonna be the guy.

Saban said in his post game presser he told Jake to get loose at one point but that Blake settled down so he didn't make the switch.

Our next two opponents lost by a combined 104-7 and gave up 1,334 yards today. I think we will be seeing both QBs play the next two weeks

That's what I've been wondering. If Sims is the guy, we have to find a way to use his legs. We can't just wedge him in there and treat him like McElroy or JPW.
