I'm not sure I like the almost irreversible finality that comes with a loss in this new playoff system. I suppose it is possible to lose early and still be one of the four selections, but with what will surely be an attempt by the committee to distribute slots geographically, a loss to and SEC team is likely translates to not being involved in the playoff. Kind of puts a damper on the rest of the season.

If USC wins the rest of their games...guess what?

if anything an early season loss is less of a season-ender than it was in the BCS.

with 4 teams in the playoff, you'll see more 2 loss champions

There is zero evidence this will happen. The playoff committee has given no indication they will distribute slots to anyone other than the four best teams regardless of geography

Surely you know this new system was created to keep two SEC teams from playing for the championship. It came to fruition because the rest of the country was so ticked when Bama and LSU played for it a few years back.

Nothing wrong with earning a reward, Notre Dame took the BCSCG social justice slot in 2012 against Alabama with a fluffed feel good record.

They were no where near as good as the Dawgs that year.

I say give this playoff prototype a chance and don't hen peck it with hysterics.

Yeah, I liked the old way better.

Surely you know this new system was created because teams with similar regular season records were not getting a shot at the national title when they should have. I.E. Auburn 2004, an SEC team.

You got it. The last thing teams that play fluff schedules want is a playoff. They would rather back their way into a title game

Big 10 pushed for this hard.

It would take at least 3 losses for the winner of the SECCG not to make it IMHO.

Uhm no. The Big Ten threatened to go back to the old bowl system if the BCS ended.

I think the SEC champion will get in unless it is Tennesee or Arkansas or the like. I can't foresee getting two teams in --even a one loss team that doesn't make it to the championship game.

Yes it is one of the reasons. There were other reasons too (pressure from the federal government, NCAA deliberating trying to take over, etc) None of this had to do with Bama playing LSU again. The people against an SEC rematch in 2011 were in the minority.

You are living in fantasy land. The entire country was against the rematch except lsu and bama

You are right about the Big 10. They pushed hard for a selection committee in the four-team system, though.

I agree with that.
