So we got in around 1730 ET last night and checked into our hotel. We're staying at the Highland Inn in Midtown. It's hipster as shite. The building is from the 1920s, there is exposed pipe running along the ceilings, the rooms are tiny, and it appears to be heated by a radiator. This morning they had the front door wide open and there was a stray cat chilling in the breakfast area.

None of these are complaints. This place is cool as hell and it's only $65 a night. It's also within walking distance of Little Five Points, which is where we spent most of today. Very cool.

But I digress. Last night. We went to eat/drink at Cypress Street Pint and Plate. Go there. It's amazing. We had BBQ spring rolls with siracha ranch and I would literally make love to them. I had a bison burger for my meal and it was spectacular, but th BBQ spring rolls stole the show. They had collard greens in them. Ugh. Delicious.

The highlight of the night is when we looked for something to get into after dinner. We found a place that was having an open mic comedy night that had great reviews, so we headed that way. It was a little walk from Cypress, but not too bad so we hoofed it. The view along the way was quaint and fun and I got to play with a puppy pug. Good walk.

So, we get to the place. We walk in and the first thing I note is that we are the only white people there. Everyone that worked there was black and all the patrons were black. I was like, "Well shite. We're in here now. I'm not walking out." Don't get me wrong. It wasn't that I was scared. The problem was I knew we'd be singled out by every comic that stood up there as the only token white couple.

Luckily this old dude that looked like Captain Kangaroo and his little floozy came in. We were saved!

We still got picked on, but it was a lot of fun. Most of the comics were very funny and we had an awesome time. They didn't serve beer, so I drank crown and Coke all night and the lady drank Cabernet. That bill added up, but since there was no cover it was worth it.

All in all it was a great first night in ATL. Today we went to IKEA (which is cool as hell. Don't judge.) and spent the afternoon in Little Five Points where we did juice shots at Arden's Gardens (the ginger shot was fricking nasty. Wheat grass was not as bad as I thought it would be.) and picked up some records at Criminal Records and got some ice cream from Zesto.

We're about to head to Sweetwater Brewing Co and do the tour. Then we're headed to Marietta to meet a friend for dinner.

Anyone else here yet? What y'all been doing?

I've probably been there a hundred times and never done the tour.

If by Marietta you mean East Cobb I'd suggest Common Quarter or Seed for dinner.

Are there any bars around the dome where Ole Miss fans are likely to go after the game? I'll either need people to drink away my depression with or celebrate.

My wife grabbed a Death Cab record and a Band of Horses record. I picked up the new Cory Branan record and an old Fugazi record. Very happy with our purchases. :D

Headed to a farmer's market today (yep.) and then over to the Dome area when my parents get into town.

Cory Branan is brilliant and from Southaven. He's playing the lyric at some point this fall. Opening for Jason Isbell maybe.

Yeah it's a Friday night in September or October. We'll be there.

Love Cory and he's a great guy. Him and the guys in Lucero are some of the most down to earth people I've ever talked to.

Also, as it turns out, Cory was in the same frat as my wife's uncle at DSU. We were seeing him at the Daily Planet one time and after the show while talking to him I asked if he remembered him. He did. That was cool.

I'm digging it.
