I'm currently in business (banking), and I've been doing this 4 years. To get to where I would need to be to make any kind of decent money, I would have to play the political game. Frankly, I don't think I'm suited for it. So I want to develop some ideas about what else I can do. I could keep my current job while I go back to school, just not sure what I want to study yet. Any ideas?

If you're asking a message board for career ideas you're in a bad spot.
Only you know what you're passionate about, start with that, forget about what will make you the most money.

Well, what do you do for fun?
If you enjoy doing outdoor hobbies, then why not something like Forestry?

I'm sure he was planning on picking the most surreal response, ditching his livlihood and chasing it based on a rant response.
God forbid people discuss something on a message board amirite??

There is even a book called "Politics in the Family" appears you can't escape unless you wish to be alone.
So a night career where you deal with few people, perhaps computer programmer

One of my best friends works in banking and I'll go to lunch with him and his co-workers every now and then and the politics between them just as lunch is nauseating to watch. I can't imagine what it's like back at the office.

Any hard science - physics, biology, engineering, chemistry. Coupled with a background in business, these create the foundation for finding a way to make money and enjoy your job.

i agree that every job has some sort of political aspect to it, but in banking it's ridiculous. And I don't necessarily want to deal with few people, I just hate dealing with banking customers. People turn to assholes when it comes to money.

there's still $$$ in the IT field for what it's worth and it's broad.
Sales, Accounting, Project Management...
you don't have to be a nerd to succeed in it.
