Somewhat random question, but are we still "watching" Derrick Jones?

I wish we could sign Derrick Jones

Forgot to mention JGT said we still are in great shape for Horace Spencer and expects a signed LOI.

He also dropped that he expects Auburn to try and sign a big man PF/C in this class.

I am happy to process several from this team, but is there a concern about our APR if we have too much turnover?

All depends. We should be fine assuming we don't have academic failures right now and the kids transfer not drop out.

I'll break down how APR works

APR is done on a semester basis and calculated based on a point system for each player.

Each player at the beginning of a semester has a total potential point value of 2. One point is for maintaining good grades, one point is for continuing towards their degree and staying in school.

**If a player is to leave school for non academic reasons (transfer/NBA etc), as long as they finish the academic year maintaining proper academic standing, they do not count against the school's APR.

If we process anyone, the key is that we find a landing spot and they maintain grades. If they do that, and our current roster meets grades we are fine.

How does it work with graduated seniors? What if they don't complete their masters?

I noticed we don't have any New Williams highlights in the OP. The 1st one is him winning a recent dunk contest and should to bed any doubt about his recovery from his knee injury. FTR he was a top 100 recruit before he was injured. The 2nd link has 2 highlight video's.

If he was injured you couldn't tell by that dunking performance.

That three pointer off the backboard was cool.

I don't know. Trying to find out but getting nothing.

APR is based off scholarship players though. Since we have extra schollies for this year, I don't see why we didn't just put some All Academic team players on scholarship for this year only to help keep our APR flying high

We don't.To sign the 1 more big JGT talked about we have to process 1. Likely a medical for Atewew. Do you know if legitimate medical reasons effect the APR?

Atewe is the only one on process watch this year. We are graduate 2 in Harrell and Canada while Mason and KC play their last year of basketball while working on their masters degrees. We essentially have half a new team coming in to play next year with 6 new guys eligible to play.

Counting Atewe we are already 1 over next year assuming Spencer signs and everybody qualifies. I've also seen M Murphy post that Atewe's injury isn't career ending and if true he won't qualify for a medical hardship.

Sespect Mark Murphy a lot but JGT relies on the knowledge he gets from his dad being a doctor and give the injury he says he would be shocked if Atewe recovers enough to play ball.

True but Thompson can be put back on walk on status along with Atewe's medical to make room for Horace and a big.

As long as he continues his education at someplace, does not negatively affect APR. In fact, it benefits Auburn for this year. Assuming Medical Hardship he stays At AU next fall and if he is academically eligible all year he gets 4/4 points.

I meant for the current roster right now (if I am counting right). I think we only have 12 scholarship players on the roster which is why i said we should just get some rhodes scholar to "walk on" for a year to help APR

Wiley is sick and won't make it but I feel good about our chances with him as long as the current staff stays intact.

I'll admit I don't know much about BBall recruiting but it seems like we need size.

Why do we only have one big man committed? Are we still looking for more guys in this class or are we done?

Jay Tate, had mentioned that he believes we take another big guy in 2015 class. That said, next year if Atewe is healthy we have two 7 ft guys, two PFs in Bowers + Spencer and a stretch 4 in Jordan Granger.

Add in that we add a 6'6 player in Danjel Purifoy at wing plus a 6'5 SG with TJ Dunans and we should be a fairley tall team
