If it was mayonnaise I'd give it an Updyke.... but I'll give it a AJs Chest Tatt.

Does Mustard have electrolytes or something?

I mean, can one of you Alabamians please explain this to me?

Supposedly it's for cramps... I can't quit laughing at it though... The deadspin headline had me rolling.

Mustard For years coaches have given mustard to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Mustard has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a spoonful or two of mustard.

I've never heard of it, but the announcers said some believe it helps prevent cramping.

Keeps you from cramping up. You should see him funneling the pickle juice on the sideline.

Quick salt intake
And before I say Updyke, I need to know if he had a bite of fried bologna in his mouth before taking the mustard shot.

Pickles and bananas are one thing. I've been watching football for a very long time and never have I seen a guy toss back a bottle of mustard

I've heard the pickle juice one before. The mustard is new to me.

I used to eat burgers loaded with pickles and mustard before games in high school...never cramped in game. Afterwards is another story.

This is a given

Well that makes sense because plenty of NFL teams used to drink pickle juice to stay hydrated.
Mustard though...

Can Mustard cure leg cramps?
Could it be the acetic acid or the magnesium in mustard that does the trick? Mustard does contain a fair amount of magnesium, which has been shown to help relieve leg cramps. In fact, one way to ward off these painful cramps is to be sure to include enough magnesium in your diet or to take magnesium supplements.
According to a recent report in the American Family Physician, nighttime leg cramps occur in up to 60 percent of adults. The authors noted that exercise, stretching or “medications such as magnesium, calcium channel blockers, carisoprodol, or vitamin B12” can be helpful.Mustard for leg cramps may provide some relief,

I thought this was pretty common knowledge that mustard and pickle juice help

Like I said above, pickle juice I know about. But just straight mustard? At least pickle juice you can choke down. Mustard seems like it'd get a little thick.
Follow-up question(s): Is there a designated person ( a coach, manager, or trainer) that brings a bottle of mustard? Did they simply run to the concession stand and jack the mustard bottle on a whim? Do players share mustard bottles? Or does each player get his own? Is it just yellow mustard or could dijon and spicy also do the trick (like different flavors of gatorade)?
