Case Keenum was a 2-star QB who only had 2 "major" offers, Houston and Baylor. Sumlin made him a well known College QB the 1st year Sumlin got there. Johnny Manziel was a 3-star with few offers to play QB. He was a star Sumlin's first year. Came out of nowhere. I see no reason he won't do the same with the much higher rated talent he has now. It seems Keenum and Manziel got all the credit, for some reason.

Is a good NFL career a result of QB development at the college level? There are a lot of explosive QBs at the collegiate level due to the offense that is ran. The QBs at Texas Tech used to always put up eye popping numbers, yet were unheard of at the next level.

I understand. They're teaching them to play QB in their system at the collegiate level. That's what they're coaching them up for.

Lol. No.

QB's thrive in his offense. You could probably go and throw for 2000 yards in that offense.

No, since Richt is the best in the country.

-Charlie Ward- heisman
-Chris Weinke- heisman
-Greene- set all time NCAA wins record
-Shock- won SEC POY in only year as starter
-Staff- #1 overall NFL draft pick
-Murray- set multiple SEC and NCAA records

So what. Are either one a starter? No.

I watched Manziel scrimmage in the spring when Sumlin first got to College Station.

If you had told me that Manziel was going to win the Heisman trophy I would have asked you what you were smoking.

I have never seen a player make as much progress in one offseason as Manziel did. You have to give the credit to Sumlin.

Most of them, yea. Greene was a 3* type. What's you're point?

The point is, QB development, with guys nobody thought much of as QB's coming out of HS. If Sumlin does it again this year, he will have made a strong case for being the best in College for QB development.

Remains to be seen--he probably needs more data points.
But he's damn good at it, that's for sure.
That certainly doesn't take anything away from other coaches who have similar talents.

Damn hard to argue with that Richt/Bobo list.

But Sumlin has gotten a lot out of his unheralded guys. Manziel was definitely talented in HS. But now, Sumlin is getting the highly touted guys. We'll see if the game evolves..

Uh, no.

Sumlin recruited neither Keenum nor Manziel. Keenum was brought in by Art Briles/Dana Holgorsen, Manziel by Mike Sherman. He inherited Briles' system in Houston and then brought Kingsbury, a Briles hire, to TAMU with him

This season will actually be a first for Sumlin in that he is captaining the ship of an offense with a QB that he recruited plus and an OC he hired all by himself.
