Fair.

Completely agree.

The toughest schedules anywhere, in a year when strength of schedule (allegedly) will matter more than ever.

Not sure I see that one, but ok.

That being said, I don't think he mentioned defense once in this entire article. No wonder his sorry self got demoted to Yahoo.

Dear college football Gods,

Please, please, please let the PAC-12's top teams run into any of the top 5 SEC teams this year.

Terrible attempt. #1 rule of trolling is that the bait has to be somewhat believable.

But hear this: The Pac-12 should be the premier conference in college football in 2014. To quote Jim Morrison, the West is the best.

In a watershed year when access to the national title is broader than ever, Larry Scott’s league has three important things going for it:

• The deepest pool of proven coaches it has ever had.

• The finest collection of quarterbacks in the nation. By a wide margin.

• The toughest schedules anywhere, in a year when strength of schedule (allegedly) will matter more than ever.

Agreed only on QB. I think SEC has its worst group of QB ever in modern era. As for overall talent level, quality of coaches, and strength of schedule, SEC is #1 by a wide margin.

The PAC12 isn't the one who dethroned the SEC (at least temporarily).

I'll admit, they are the only conference outside of the SEC that has more than a couple quality teams, but as of now its all talk.

This article stretches the limits of what you can accomplish with statistics.

quote:

All total, 29.7 percent of the league’s non-conference games are against teams from power-five conferences or Notre Dame. The SEC, by comparison, plays 19.6 percent of its non-league games against power-five opponents.

So between the ninth conference game and the willingness to play a 10th quality opponent, the Pac-12 has set the bar in terms of strength of schedule.

Just ignore the actual SOS rankings, and the fact that the SEC doesn't just have Oregon and... and.... who else is going to challenge for the playoff?

quote:

The combination may not yield a national champion, but it almost certainly will yield a College Football Playoff participant – and if things break right, possibly even two. Which could cause some folks south of the Mason-Dixon Line to threaten secession once again.

I would say I stopped reading at this point, but I did scroll down and look at the pictures at the bottom.

The fact that he has to write an article with that title proves otherwise.

It's the narrative the media wants. I've said this for months. You'll see the AP Poll shite all over SEC teams that have eliminated themselves from Atlanta. The playoff committee as well. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. They want 4 conference champs, and they'll get it unless there are epic collapses late and they have no other choice. Part of the SEC not being king is part of that. Note how they will in the same breath, they aren't saying that the Pac-12 needs two teams over the SEC, merely that it's better. It's all an overt effort to discount two SEC teams in order to protect their regional interests. Media in LA want the Pac 12 Champ in the playoff regardless of how many wins they have, so they are already prepping for their Champ to have one loss. You'll see this kind of rhetoric all year, from every region.

The fact that he even has to make that his headline is a testament to how much better we are than everyone else. Further reiterates that everyone is mad. I love it.

He also conveniently forgot to mention that the SEC plays FOUR OOC games, the Pac 2 only plays three, which means we HAVE to, by simple lack of availabilty have more lower-echelon OOC games than them.

Try scheduling in advance more than 1 BCS-caliber quality OOC opponent. LSU had gotten lucky we got 2 in 2011 (Oregon and West Va.)

It takes longer than a one year run to make a league "king," even assuming they have better teams top to bottom overall than the SEC this year.

PAC 12 needs to win something
It always seems Stanford and Oregon always slip up somewhere against teams they have no business losing to.
USC even with all the talent Carroll was paying for always slipped up

Alabama, LSU, and Auburn would blow a load into every single team in the P12 except MAYBE Oregon. And Auburn and LSU have already shown what they can do to the quack attack the last 4 years....the latter of which totally destroyed them in 2011.
