Over the next 6 years, NW Arkansas and the Delta region are going to get $302 million. The past few years have been crazy (WAC expansion, Kessler Mountain, trails, etc), but its going to get crazier as far as Walton-funded amenities.

......
The foundation defines its home region as Northwest Arkansas and the Delta region of Arkansas and Mississippi.

From 2010 through 2013, the foundation's grants in the home region totaled $25 million to $40 million a year, said Rob Brothers, director of the foundation's home region focus area.

For the next few years, the amount will be between $42 million and $50 million a year, he said

Wonderful news!

"The Walton Family Foundation of Bentonville will significantly increase its grants in Northwest Arkansas and the Delta over the next six years, with plans to invest $302 million in what it considers its "home region."

The grants will help fund everything from performing arts in Northwest Arkansas to Civil War and cultural heritage tourism in the Delta. In both areas, education will be a priority.

The foundation defines its home region as Northwest Arkansas and the Delta region of Arkansas and Mississippi."

479 and 870 here too.

The natural and arts amenities have been funded greatly recently. I expect more in the form of grants for urban planning and incentives for infill development. Everything released by the WFF lately has talked about "creating places" and improving the livability of the NWA cities.

Sure do wish the Waltons could somehow facilitate that I-49 corridor thing. I would imagine it would help a lot, logistically, with their delivery routes and such.

They will indirectly with infrastructure. You bet they will lean on AHTD as they push the communities onward.

Alice scoffs at a paltry $302 million with her billion dollar art museum.

I'm not sure the value of the Foundation's holdings, but it is massive. They're even throwing Mississippi a bone.

I'm from the 870. You would not believe some of the athletes from this part of the state. If there was an educational support system and better facilities in the schools they would be churning out D1 talent.

Good to see some money going that way no matter what the intention is.

They'd only have to have an annual return of around 2% to fund these donations. Sheesh.
