It's not the corporations fault, its our elected officials selling out to them. Over regulation and Government intervention into the free market has fricked up the markets and enriched those already established. It's becoming harder and harder to start a small business, and that leads to less competition for the major corporations.

Deregulate the market and provide tax incentives for small business, while balancing tax revenue by closing corporate tax loopholes and our economy would boom. The innovative genius of the people in America that has long been driving our economy is being squashed by Big Government and Crony Capitalists.

So in just the last 5 years these corporations got greedy and caused this? It never occurred before then?

The actions of CEOs in the last 5 years 2009 caused the downturn in 2008?

Record profits for the last 5 years combined with high unemployment rates? Nothing to do with tax hikes or ACA?

Sounds legit.

Because we don't build anything anymore . . . except social media outlets, movies, and reality TV shows.

Pretty sad commentary.

The minute you fricks realize that it's the corporations that are controlling the elected officials (and in many cases the elected officials were former members of the corporations), and understand that big government and big corporation are growing in unison is the minute we'll have a chance to get our power as individuals back.

Fascism is a lost word amid the left vs right -- socialist vs capitalist banter because it puts blame on both ideologies.

We're socially engineered to forget about fascism, the outcome is a polarizing divide between the left and right, divide and conquer as they say.

The nanny state is out of control, yes, a nanny state of any kind should not be desired, but the ignorant omission of the white collar side of the welfare coin is a huge, major, massive, reason we're at a politically intellectual stalemate.

While most of this is true, I'd say we're moving more towards a plutocracy than facism, though there is certainly some facism sprinkled in for good measure.

Yes, yes, a plutocracy or oligarchy, whichever you prefer.

Everything is controlled by a small minority of the wealthiest citizens -- this is made possible by the marriage between corporations and government.

What you stated is what I was saying. Only I don't blame the corporations because they are simply taking advantage of the situation at hand. I blame stupid people who vote for the same politicians that give in to corporate interests.

If more people would realize big government is the problem and elect politicians with a backbone then we could reverse some damage.

You have to limit government because there's not much you can do to limit corporations unless you have a government that serves the people.

No, it's not. We said very different things.

Clearly you're not grasping the notion that corporations are buying the elected officials.

Kind of like how you're bought off with a steak dinner and a pocket knife to push forward farm raised bullshite that has no nutritional value.

I've never said it wasn't a contributing problem. In the end, Gov't sets the regulations. And the takers don't get involved enough. So long as they get theirs, they don't care what their politicians do. Gov't has made it just comfy enough to keep them ignorant and blind. The "poor" has steak for dinner, while watching their big screen, talking to their buddies on their smart phones in their subsidized housing.

I don't blame people that work, for EARNING their money. I blame the politicians and the dregs of society.

This is sad, although a psychological treat. It's both frustrating and interesting to see how narrow minded my fellow man can be.

Apparently you're not capable of grasping the fact that the corporations are buying the elected officials.

That would like put a wrench in your worldview, man.

Inverted totalitarianism

READ!

, inverted totalitarianism is described as a system where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics trumps politics.[5] In inverted totalitarianism, every natural resource and every living being is commodified and exploited to collapse as the citizenry are lulled and manipulated into surrendering their liberties and their participation in government through excess consumerism and sensationalism.

According to Wolin, there are three main ways in which inverted totalitarianism is the inverted form of classical totalitarianism.

Whereas in Nazi Germany the state dominated economic actors, in inverted totalitarianism, corporations through political contributions and lobbying, dominate the United States, with the government acting as the servant of large corporations. This is considered "normal" rather than corrupt.[7]
While the Nazi regime aimed at the constant political mobilization of the population, with its Nuremberg rallies, Hitler Youth, and so on, inverted totalitarianism aims for the mass of the population to be in a persistent state of political apathy. The only type of political activity expected or desired from the citizenry is voting. Low electoral turnouts are favorably received as an indication that the bulk of the population has given up hope that the government will ever help them.[8]
While the Nazis openly mocked democracy, the United States maintains the conceit that it is the model of democracy for the whole world.[9] Wolin writes:

Inverted totalitarianism reverses things. It is all politics all of the time but a politics largely untempered by the political. Party squabbles are occasionally on public display, and there is a frantic and continuous politics among factions of the party, interest groups, competing corporate powers, and rival media concerns. And there is, of course, the culminating moment of national elections when the attention of the nation is required to make a choice of personalities rather than a choice between alternatives. What is absent is the political, the commitment to finding where the common good lies amidst the welter of well-financed, highly organized, single-minded interests rabidly seeking governmental favors and overwhelming the practices of representative government and public administration by a sea of cash.[
