Seriously, did Fulmer ever have 40 players from TN on the roster in the 90's?

You realize bama only had 2 players more than Tennessee rated 4 star or higher in the 2014 class. For 2015 Tennessee has 12 players rated 4 star or higher, bama has 11.

There were 31 from the great state of Tennessee on the '98 team so the number in the op is comparable.

I'm not going to go through an count them all, but probably 75 from GA, 15-18 from FL, 7-10 from the Carolinas, and 10 from VA/TN/AL/elsewhere

ETA: to answer the OP, states represented: GA, FL, NC, SC, VA, TN, AL, MD, IN, WA

Not having enough Louisiana players is definitely a problem for the Vols.

I just looked at the 97 roster, it had 29 Tennessee players. I didn't bother to look up more

You really don't know much about TN football. The myth that we don't have in state talent is so overblown on the rant it's flat out funny. But to answer your question - yes, indeed. We've always had instate talent. Little Man Stewart might be someone you've heard of since you're asking about the 90s but there have been several. The times Tennessee has been best have been when we've had Tennessee players. This state has always produced excellent lineman but other positions as well. And those linemen have been the core of our best teams as well as some superior lines - Tiny is from here.

One of the things Dooley did was completely neglect in-state talent and the results have been about the opposite of what you just said.

This freshman class Jones just brought in that is so highly touted? Jalen Hurd 5* RB, Josh Malone 5* WR, Todd Kelly Jr. 4* Safety (Knoxville), Derek Barnett 4* DE, Charles Moseley 4* DT, Michael Sawyer 3/4* DT, Rashaan Gaulden 3/4* Safety, Vic Wharton 3* ATH/WR (who is starting to look criminally underrated), Jashon Robertson 3* OG, Aaron Medley 3* K (one top kickers in the country) all TN prospects. That's 10 TN HS kids with Hurd and Malone being the gems of that class and Kelly being the 3rd highest rated according to 24/7. That makes the top 3 kids of that class all TN HS kids.

But we ain't got no talent.
