I'm thinking of building a banquette.

Looks simple enough online. Anyone done it? Easy or what?

An upholstered bench?

Or a small foot path or elevated step along the inside of a rampart or parapet, by which the musketeers get up to view the counterscarp?

Cushioned and upholstered. Storage inside as well.

Piano hinged top was the thought. Wife can easily do the cushioned seat part, so all I have to do is make the box.

Made one last year. Not terribly hard to do, the biggest problem is that I constructed it outside and moved it inside; it was perfectly level, but the floors of our 100+ year old bungalow are not. Nothing I couldn't fix without some shims. If you have indoor dogs, I'd recommend going with a stain or dark paint, our lab and beagle constantly dirty-up the white paint. I'm going to sand it down one of these weekends and stain it.

I was going to do this as well and would have been in same boat.

Making inside presents other problems for me with kids in the way and shite. Maybe I can figure out a way to compensate for floor fluctuations and still build outdoors.
