Last night when Ledbetter flipped from Bama to Georgia, 247Sports had Alabama ranked #1 with a score of 299.82, solidly in the lead.

Ledbetter was almost instantly added to UGAs commit list by 247 and he bumped us up to #5 in the rankings, Ledbetter was worth around 20 points for us, up to about 25 points now.

However, he had yet to be removed from Bama's class calculator. That's fine, it was late at night, and the news had just broken. I went ahead and used the Bama class calculator to remove him. Last night he was worth 19.54 points to them. Bama's score fell to 280.28....... still in 1st place, but not quite as far ahead of everyone else.

I have a good bit of this documented in real time in the UGA recruiting thread.

So I go to sleep, I get up this morning and do some chores, drink some coffee. Log back on to 247 to bask in the glory that is UGA flipping Ledbetter.

Lo and behold, I see Alabama's score is still a 294.66. I think "damn, they still haven't removed Ledbetter from Bama's list, those lazy bastards." I click back on Bama's class calculator and to my surprise, Ledbetter had been removed overnight, but instead of it dropping Bama's score 19 points, it only dropped their score 4 points.

My next thought was "shite, did Ledbetter get arrested last night or something to make him suddenly worthless?" I instantly click over to the UGA class calculator, and there is Ledbetter, ranked even higher than the night before, now worth 25 points for UGA, even more than the 19 he was worth to Bama the night before.

So it's very clear what happened.

Someone at 247 Sports went in to Bama's class during the night and started bumping kids little fractions of points and tweeking their little algorithm to make it look like Bama didn't lose a damn thing.

This is horse shite to the highest degree.

From this point forward I will use 247 as more of a tracker to see who is heading where, offers, basic info, but when it comes to their actual rankings and their mysterious algorithms, they have now officially been busted for bullshite.

The exact same shite people flocked to 247Sports for, and away from the other sources.

If true, this is sad. It wouldn't shock me at all though, because 247 is run by shitty people.

In all seriousness, the only rankings that remotely matter are ESPN. That's where ALL the publicity is on NSD. 247 and these other peon sites don't mean shite.

Warmack and McGraw are two more flip targets from Bama's list....

LINK

I want it on the record that right now, McGraw is worth 11.09 to Bama and Warmack is 7.46

Let's listen in.

Isn't it agreed upon by most that ESPN is the worst of the lot?

Yes but when signing day rolls around which rankings are covered more and seen by the casual fan? It's ESPN

No. Scout is without question the worst. Rivals may be worse than ESPN now as well.

ESPN has 50x the budget that these other smaller networks have. When it comes down to it, I like who they have evaluating the kids as well, not some guys that didn't play football past middle school.

Re-read what I said above, in my last post.

But that's only because they air all the drama. Doesn't make them the best. Just the most widely known.

That's why they're the most important. How good they are is kind of irrelevant

But that's not how it works. I just did the class calculator and dropped Warmack and McGraw off for purposes of this. It dropped the 294 to 286 when their total player value is 14 points.

I think you're missing the main point. When Ledbetter was taken off the class calculator, Bama's score dropped more than when he actually dropped off the commit list, per deeprig

Somebody is figuring out if they can catch Bama in recruiting this year. Keep hoping.

I thought 247 only used the top 20 players who were committed. With Ledbetter we were at 21 now at 20. Ledbetter dropping if I am correct would not drop all his points, it would only be lower by the points fewer by who replaced him.

Use the calculator. None of it is straight forward. Using the same example, Warmack dropped the total closer to what his total is worth. McGraw worth much more by their rankings, dropped it even less when removing him.

By reading his post, Ledbetter got mores points for UGA than he did for Bama. They are biased against Bama.

Yeah. I've added Malik Jefferson and Kendall Sheffield to our class, and adding two five stars doesn't pump us up their individual point total for sure. That's about the extent of my knowledge of that thing though. If A&M ends up with 4 different 5 stars, one of them being a dominant QB, I don't care what we are ranked, I know our class is filthy.

***** Dummy *****

The Formula

Team Ranking Explanation
where c is a specific team's total number of commits and Rn is the 247Sports Composite Rating of the nth-best commit times 100.

Explanation

In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the 247Sports Composite Rating.

Each recruit is weighted in the rankings according to a Gaussian distribution formula (a bell curve), where a team's best recruit is worth the most points. You can think of a team's point score as being the sum of ratings of all the team's commits where the best recruit is worth 100% of his rating value, the second best recruit is worth nearly 100% of his rating value, down to the last recruit who is worth a small fraction of his rating value. This formula ensures that all commits contribute at least some value to the team's score without heavily rewarding teams that have several more commitments than others.

Readers familiar with the Gaussian distribution formula will note that we use a varying value for s based on the standard deviation for the total number of commits between schools for the given sport. This standard deviation creates a bell curve with an inflection point near the average number of players recruited per team.

Below is a graphical representation of how our formula works. You can see that the area under the curve gets smaller both as the rating for a commit decreases and as the number of total commits for a school increases. The y-axis in this graph represents the percentage weight of the score that gets applied to an overall team ranking.
