Do you donate money to your SEC school's education mission or to its athletics?

Do you, or would you, donate to the athletic department before academics? (Read below to see what qualifies as donation)

Update: If you donate to both, which do you donate more to? (in this scenario include all ticket contributions)

Somebody said in the other thread that they wouldn't donate to a professional sports team and questioned why anything more than ticket and merchandise purchases are needed for college athletics

This does not include the base level "Tigers Unlimited" type donations that make you eligible for ticket priority.

Donations need to exceed 100$/year

Donations are defined as anything that exceeds basic donations to qualify for season tickets. If you upgrade your donations to scholarship seats, box seats etc or if you straight up donate money to athletics for other causes

I pay for our south end zone club tickets and the donation that is required. I also have baseball tickets but sit with my father in law for basketball. I don't know where they spend the money and I really don't care. I pay it so that I can watch the games and as a tax write off .

Ummc has now started sending me letters wanting money too. Guess I need to see if I need more write offs or something. I feel like I give plenty currently, but I leave most of that kind of stuff up to my wife.

Both. The only correct answer,
Studies have shown that individuals who donate money to their school's athletic department are more likely than other alums to donate to the school's academics.

All 3, granted it is not a whole lot as I do not have that much dough.
1 Donate to several SEC academic institutions
2 Fake donated to SEC athletic institutions
3 Donate to several SEC athletic institutions

If they tell you what you have to pay to get tickets in the first place it is not really a donation but a bribe.

GenesChin
A better question is do you donate to a specific SEC sport to get tickets or do you donate to a sport for which you derive no benefit.

example
Donating to Ole Miss for football tickets
Donating to Ole Miss for Women's Rifle (and no football benefits)

I donate enough money to TidePride to get good, chairback seats.

I donate to the university for tax purposes.

I also donate to my alma mater, Appalachian State. They give me 50 yard line seats for 2,000 a year.

I was told early on by a successful alumni that it's trashy to donate to the athletic association past what it takes to get good tickets and I've stuck by it. Will give to certain educational initiatives.

Both. Lifetime member of Alumni Association, and a member of the Gamecock Club with football season tickets.

More to athletics, though.

both. Gold Leaf member for giving to Vanderbilt. Member NCC and Gridiron. Also support tennis (what I played there).

As Vandy's athletic fortunes have improved, I have increased my gifts.....and since I always give more to the University than for sports, the academic side benefits every year as well.

Yearly season ticket donations.

I have donated to academics, but do not do so regularly. I donate much more to my high school's scholarship funds. I just feel like its needed there more

Both, more to sports though. A&M's academic endowment is already larger than every other SEC school COMBINED, they need the athletic funding more.
