Say you had a choice, for your school to be truly elite in football for the rest of your lifetime or for them to start entering the conversation as top 10-20 academic school, what would you choose?

UPDATE: If you choose football/sports you are now a bottom academic school in all programs regardless of how you are currently ranked

If you choose academics you are bottom SEC school in sports

If you are good at football you are a bottom dweller in academics for major state institutions

If you are good at academics you are a bottom dweller of the SEC in football

Helpful hints for people

1- If your school is already good at football you must then start sucking at football

2- If you suck at football and academics (Examples are Miss St, Ole Miss, UK, USCe or UTK) then you can choose to be good at either FB or academics

2- Only school that is elite at Academics is Vandy and they can choose to give that up and be football or stay where they are at

If I were smart enough to get in, Vandy would have been my school, or Stanford.

I meant to just highlight schools that don't have a history of being elite in either category

Ole Miss was pretty salty in football for a few decades.

Not Bama's, Virginia's or any Ivy League schools. I'm sure there are a lot more examples.

So 60 or so years of elite football? Hell yeah I'm taking that. Just stay decent in academics.

LSU is certainly no Vandy academically, just as Vandy is no LSU in athletics.

But LSU has hovered around the top academics wise, in grad rates amongst athletes, while maintaining a damn strong athletic program at the same time.

LSU may have the best blend of both in the SEC.

Since Ole Miss is elite in neither and won't be for the foreseeable future...

Football. The program I'm in (Architecture) is consistently in the top 20 undergrad programs in the country (top 10 right now). I don't care about how the rest of the university is viewed academically as long as that keeps up.

Shoot for program prestige, not university prestige. Saves money.
