Bad news for Matulis, hopefully its not too serious.

Na'ty Rodgers and Will Sport are also options at RG. I really hope we don't have to rely on Will Sport

Hopefully it's not too severe and Matulis is back fairly soon. OGs don't have to slide and move with edge rushers like the OTs have to, but they will be in those interior scrums where linemen get run up on by RBs from behind, and get bent backwards with other interior linemen all piling up on their legs etc. I've seen OGs play with knee braces (they do anyways but with bigger ones) after getting slightly sprained knees and still be productive.

Tough that we'll have to go without Matulis in the first games that are important to the season, but our backups will just have to step up. Good thing is we still have 1.5-2 weeks of preparation to get both Waldrop and Stadnick up to speed for Texas A&M. Both have starting experience so it should be fine for them anyways....

Form the GamecockCentral report on the injury.. what the hell? I thought we had a lot of depth in the Oline?

Yea we're just about 3 deep at every line position. I'm not really sure what that was about

We could play Waldrop, Rodgers, or Will Sport, all of which have played RG before, or we could move Brock Stadnick.

Maybe Spurrier is just used to not having any offensive linemen.

We don't have a lot of experienced depth right now...interior linemen Brock Stadnik and Alan Knott have been held out (knee), and Waldrop has just returned from a slight oblique strain. We're just a little thin at OG depth right now, but by the start of the season we should be fine. Plus the depth and experience at the other 4 positions should be strong and help cover the inexperience at RG, which was going to be the least-experienced position on the OL anyways...

But still hope that Matulis can return quickly. He deserves to have a good healthy season for once...

Yeah I was hoping it was just Spurrier being Spurrier.. there is never enough depth.

I think it's just that the HBC gets a little depressed when we lose a starter in the preseason. He hates that worse than anything.

Plus he's a very superstitious guy and he's probably hoping this is not an ominous sign.

On a side note Devonte Holloman suffered a neck injury for Dallas tonight.

Back to our current Gamecocks, there are a couple of posisitions where we're not as deep as others. QB, OG, Secondary and maybe WR.

Injury losses are never good but the HBC hates them most when they happen on the practice field. He considers those a waste and he is constantly reminding his players and coaches to be wary of leg injuries during practices. It's a pet peeve of his. I've seen him go-off on players for even accidentally falling on someone's legs.

This is not good. Matualis was also a backup at Tackle, he was a FR All American/All SEC OT and started 5 games there his FR year. He could've helped if Robinson or Shell went down, we're deeper at Guard.

I really had high hopes for rodgers when he signed. I hope that kid gets out of the doghouse and gets his head on straight.

Na'Ty is suspended for the first game, b/c he was the only player in a year to get arrested on our team. It was for a stupid Minor in Possession (alcholo) charge that a thousands of college kids get, but the coaches still have set the "No bullshite" tone.

Look at a&m, their QB got arrested for Public Intoxication and was a rape waiting to happen while he was passed out drunk in public and now that sum'bitch was named the starter! No wonder they had 10+ arrests over the past 8 months, there's no control over there.

Na'Ty is a really good player, he's going to work through this and come back strong. He'll probably start for ECU or UGA if Matulis is still out. He's a great talent to have on our OL.

I heard somewhere that rodgers, recently, has only worked at tackle. I was hoping he could play guard if needed. Sport was an abortion at Tennessee last year.

Yes, Rodgers is at OT right now, but from what I heard earlier in the summer, he was going to be suspended for the 1st game.

As far as Will Sport, he's changed his body dramatically in the past year. He was one of the leaders in the weight room in the off season, and his strength index improved dramatically from '13's off season. He wasn't strong enough last year to deal with Tenn's large DT like McClulers (or however you spell that giant's name.) This year, there aren't going to be many DT's that can push him around. I actually think that Tenn game was the fuel for him doing all that from that point forward to now.

RG is underrated when your tailback prefers the A gap.

People too often think of OL positions in terms of pass pro.

When you've got a meatball thumper at RG that can guarantee your running back 2 yards on every play, if he is a thumper that can pull out on a sweep or forward to a linebacker, consistently, in the SEC, its not cool when he goes down.

Both Waldrop and Mason Harris are back practicing today. Good news for both!
