The league announced earlier this summer that they will increase the number of permanent rivals (i.e. teams that will play home and away games every year) from one to three. Each team will keep their current permanent rival and add two more.

The main goals of this are to get more SEC teams in the tournament (good teams play more good teams and increase RPI) and increase fan interest (play more teams against local rivals). Based on this criteria, I took a stab at trying to predict the new permanent rivals.

What does everyone think about these? THIS IS JUST MY GUESS - NOT OFFICIAL

Alabama - Auburn, Tennessee, Miss State
Arkansas - Mizzou, LSU, Texas A&M
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina
Florida - Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina
Georgia - South Carolina, Florida, Auburn
Kentucky - Florida, Tennessee, Mizzou
LSU - Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss
Miss State - Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama
Mizzou - Arkansas, Kentucky, Vandy
Ole Miss - Miss State, LSU, Vandy
South Carolina - Georgia, Auburn, Florida
Tennessee - Vandy, Kentucky, Alabama
Texas A&M - LSU, Arkansas, Miss State
Vandy - Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mizzou

How are they gonna take away the Miss State/Kentucky series?

Except the fact that I can't remember a time we won in Gainesville and that's a given loss on the road every year

But I want to play them every year so I'm fine with it. And Auburn/SC are generally pushovers except I guess Pearl could make it challenging.

Somewhat indifferent. Would at least like to have kept one of the bell cows of the conference as a permanent opponent.

We aren't basketball rivals.

I don't like losing UT permanently either.

In a perfect world this would have been my picks
#1 Vols
#2 Dores
#3 Hogs

If they ever get back to the old days then Bama and LSU would have been acceptable. The above rotation tho for UK works across the entire sports spectrum.

For the Dores this would be my Pick 3
#1 Vols
#2 Cats
#3 Rebs

Well you can't have everything. They weren't just gonna give us the 3 worst teams (other than us) in the league. We got 2/3, so I'm giddy.

we're everything rivals. You don't just pick and choose what sports you're rivals in.

Yeah I think Kentucky, and Florida to a lesser extent, will be high on everyone's wish list.

Realistically Kentucky only has one available spot because Tennessee is almost certainly going to be their second rival after Florida, and I think they will give that spot to a school close to them like Vandy or Mizzou, or maybe Arkansas.

I'm not positive on who Florida should get. Georgia and SC seem like natural fits, but neither are big basketball draws.

Florida is new and not really a rival as Gators do not travel well for basketball. ESPN pushes for it because Florida is a big market (the state) but making it the primary rival will become a drag in a post Billy Era.

Historically Vols and Dores have been the best games.
