I would bet the house on Worley starting. Dobbs will most likely redshirt. Peterman will be 2nd string... hopefully all year.

I've read this a couple of times now. Is this conjecture on your part or is this something the media is reporting?

I have no sources or anything but I haven't seen anyone other than message board posters suggest it

Part of me thinks it's a good idea and then part of me thinks it's a horrible one

It's been conjecture for over a year by a few fans on message boards but I've never seen the media or anyone around the program indicate that or even give any signal that it was a possibility.

As to Dobbs and Worley regressing (and I've seen that from fans earlier this week - I think stemming from a Rucker tweet but it could've been any number of offhand media comments)... I don't buy that for an instant. I think all that's really happened is Peterman's getting some recognition. I don't know why the media is acting as though he didn't look good in the spring (well I lied, I do know - they were all focused on Riley and the narrative they were driving there) but Peterman had a solid spring.

Honestly, after poring over the various footage from open practice, I feel like the press is either incredibly naive (fallen for coachspeak) or sensationalizing things to drive hits/page views and subs - probably both plus a touch of stupid.

At any rate, every time I've heard Worley or Dobbs looked terrible, the footage has shown all of them looking fine, usually with a few errant passes or WR drops but nothing special for practice.

I think Worley gets the nod, but if I'm being honest, Peterman has looked really good so far.

I didn't realize that Peterman had more zip on his ball then Worley. I knew that he sold the ball fake better but I've been impressed with the improvements that he has made since last year. He looked baaad last year in the AP & UF games. I'm hoping that he isn't purely a practice champ and can produce on the field if he's going to be called upon.

Simply conjecture. If Dobbs is 3rd string, it only makes sense to RS him.

The only thing I worry about with Peterman is that he looked bad in our cupcake games before he ever started in the Swamp. It's a new season and a new Nate but then Nate has always practiced well. If he can transition that consistently good practice QB'ing to game time then he'll be a solid QB for us.

I still think Worley starts and Dobbs has the most potential but whatever is going on with Dobbs right now, I wish it would all click together because once it does lookout.

Oh alright, thanks for he replies all.

Having Peterman as a backup sounds absolutely awful. Maybe he has improved but man...I just can't see it after the debacles last year. I just really hope Dobbs isn't redshirted, he certainly has the most potential out of the group.

I agree with you on all counts Robert, although I can see some logic in redshirting since we missed a QB class last year but to me, it just doesn't outweigh the good of playing him whether he starts or gets some experience in junk time. Also, I think it would destroy his confidence to do that to him now. You just don't do that to a young gun who has doubters and needs to step back into the ring ASAP.

Dobbs has, imho, shown he's more of a gamer despite the true frosh mistakes he made - both in games and even in the O&W - he responds to the energy of a game/gamelike environment. Peterman is solid and I've said that since early spring but imo, he does not have the upside Dobbs does any more than Worley even if he shows he can perform in games the way he does in practice.

At most, I'd split or rotate trash time for Dobbs and Peterman if Worley emerges as starter even though I'd prefer giving Dobbs the majority of those, Peterman has earned a chance to take reps in cleanup even if it's limited.

What I don't quite understand about all this is that the press has been hellbound and determined to downplay Dobbs since Spring and even tore down his O&W performance and went out of their way to say Worley will start. That drumbeat has continued into fall camp and coverage of Dobbs has been hard to come by even prior to the press declaring a Peterman resurgence.

That's just strange if you ask me and one of the reasons why I think CBJ is very determined to keep opponents guessing. The tapes haven't matched media descriptions of what they saw and recorded at open sessions no matter who they're talking about. And while I've never worked in sports journalism, I have worked in journalism before and I can attest that journalists are always looking for an angle - a narrative to build a good story around. The best try to stay true but those types get fewer and fewer these days as there are more and more demands for content and FAST.

And no lie - virtually all of the quotes they use come from CBJ's pressers and they often present them out of context - you can see for yourself if you check the transcripts (VQ, 247, and all the major outlets are guilty of writing based off the pressers/coachspeak and driving a narrative). Their 'analysis' relies on the presser so much that if you wait and just go to presser directly you don't need them and you'll often be more informed for reading the full quotes/comments.
