Obviously, scheduling was a huge problem, even back then.

Yes ... well, I think you are alluding to what I thought everyone would notice right out of the chute.
Some teams played five conference games, some played six and some played seven.
Go figure.
I'd like to see those schedules ... of the top five programs that first season.

The SEC didn't officially take over scheduling of conference games until like the 60's. Before that schools made their own schedules, including conference ones.

As usual, Bama plays a weaker schedule. Seriously, we have 7 conference games to their 6.

You're right ... Auburn and UGA only played four conference games.
