Apparently LSU is holding a "slight lead". This is coming from Barton Simmons, but you really can't rely on just 1 source. What are you guys hearing?

From what I understand it all boils down to how Tennessee plays this year. If we go 6-6 or better he's a VOL, IMO. If it's anything less then that, from what I've seen, he looks some where else.

God I wish this is all it took for LSU to get good recruits.

(Edit: hopefully he is smart.)

Tennessee possesses the lead. Wouldn't call him a lock though.

I'm interested to hear what some of the Alabama posters are hearing about Phillips. The Vols have been a contender for a long time with LSU making up ground in recent months. I didn't realize he was even considering the Tide.

I'm not trying to sugar coat it. He wants to see improvement in year 2 and I don't blame him. We've been shitty since '08. Believe me when I say I know.

Basically if UT gets a bowl bid and shows consistent improvement going into year 3, he's staying home. If they don't, it sounds like he's keeping his options open

Barton Simmons seems to agree.

Tennessee is still very much a factor. One thing to keep an eye on this fall is how Tennessee starts out of the gates. A quick start for the Vols could immediately bolster their chances. Conversely a couple of losses early on could push Phillips further in the direction of the SEC West.

If he committed now it would be LSU. Bama is more of a factor than others think and long term he may pick Bama is what was said. If you look at the Bama board in the recruiting thread on the last page you can see what was reported.

This was the quote I was thinking of: per Barton Simmons

I just changed my Crystal Ball from Tennessee to LSU on Kyle Phillips but one source indicated that Alabama may be the smart play long term. He really likes the tide and so does his mother. He hasn't been discussed a lot with regards to Bama but he's much more in play than ppl realize.

His mom likes Alabama. We may get an official. If we do, some folks feel we could become a major player.

It's not even close to being that simple. How are you gonna tell me who he would commit to right now when we hear from his trainers, coaches, people close to his recruitment etc. who leads and how things are trending with his recruitment? I'll go ahead and wait. If Kyle Phillips were to commit today, it would be Tennessee. Like it's been said the other X amount of times, if UT shits the bed this season, again, then he's gone.

We'll see what happens. LSU is another big player in his recruitment. From what I understand is that if UT can start to turn the corner in year 2 then it's hard not to see him a Vol. A lot is going to hinge on the season.

An LSU official visit will play a big role too IMO.

Barton Simmons has whiffed on several Tennessee commitments so take him with a grain of salt.

It'll come down to record I think. If we go 6-6 or better that's showing improvement and I think he'll be okay with that.
