I hope they do better than they did with scheduling.

Does the SEC final secede?

I'm worried. Sometimes the enemy you know, is better than the one you don't.

so what does this mean for everything not named football?

The NCAA had no choice. They had no power to deny it quite honestly.
The Power 5 could'uv just told them to pound sand.

Wrong. The NCAA is still in control but they are going to change thier governance for the Power 5 conferences.
We will still be under the NCAA.
The NCAA on Thursday approved a new governance structure for Division I that will give the five power conferences a level of legislative autonomy never seen before in the history of the organization.
The 16-2 vote by the Division I Board of Directors, which took place at NCAA headquarters, is subject to a 60-day veto period before the new governance structure is official. It is not expected enough schools will to override to put the legislation in jeopardy.
The Board made one significant change to the proposal introduced last month: For legislation to be considered, only one of the five conferences is required to submit it, not three. That aligns with the current Division I legislative process.
In a statement, NCAA President Mark Emmert said, "I am immensely proud of the work done by the membership. The new governance model represents a compromise on all sides that will better serve our members and, most importantly, our student-athletes. These changes will help all our schools better support the young people who come to college to play sports while earning a degree."

So when does Bama get to make their own rules. Oh right they already do.

Hopefully, this brings us one step closer to paying players.
It's time for these Universities to stop stealing from their athletes.

It almost looks like the 3 richest conferences, (SEC,B1G,PAC) have the bloc power to control the NCAA or at least close to it.
Well this group could easily vote itself an advantage in things like spending on scholarships, of course we'll still be able to outspend on the other factors like facilities, but I see it as a win for the "rich get richer" mindset.
lol, clueless post is clueless.

Schad said the power five can offer stipends now, $2,000 - $5,000 per year.

I am opposed but you are right, there is nothing stopping this. We are now on the path toward paying players and not having any academic requirements, and it can't be stopped
Who will stop the Power 5 conferences? NCAA has no leverage.

So basically $150-$450 a month
They already get that much more than that in off campus allowance

The NCAA doesn't actually control anything.

It's a step in the right direction, but it's not even close to enough. They should offer stipends, and impose the Olympic model. Players should be allowed to make what they're worth on the open market.

I wonder if this rule allows each league autonomy to determine their league champion...The ACC and SEC would be well served to have the freedom to eliminate divisional play (if they choose) and pick the top 2 teams for their conference championship game.
This would really free up scheduling
