Another pleasant surprise.

David Sharpe, a 6-6, 336-pound offensive tackle, has impressed UF’s staff all summer with his athleticism and work ethic, and coach Will Muschamp said he will be counted on to contribute immediately

Starting to look like Roper was the jump we needed.

All the physical gifts don't mean squat when experience is lacking. We HAVE to count on him and a few other frosh due to lack of depth at OL, by years end guys like Sharpe will be pushing for starters roles.

We have to get five more OL recruits for 2015 and at least 1 JUCO imo to stave off depth issues going forward in 2016-17. My one biggest complaint about Boom was the lack of OL recruits in numbers for his 2011-12 classes.

Boom said he would take talent over experience any day.

I hope we get 5 and 2 JUCO's to be honest.

Yeah he has really shite the bed at recruiting oline. I thought being a defensive coach, oline would be what he would recruit the best, given that he wanted to switch to a pro-style offense.

2012 offensive recruiting class, is IMO, Boom's biggest failure.

He's been fine other than that.

UF really needs a decent JUCO plus 5 other OL this year.

Then UF will be fine going forward.

The depth moving forward is not anything to be super excited about: Especially if Humphries has a good year and goes pro:

Look at the depth chart without Humphries for 2015:

LT: David Sharpe, Kavaris Harkless/Nolan Kelleher?
LG: Trip Thurman, Travaris Dorsey/Antonio Riles
C: Cam Dillard/Trip Thurman
RG: Drew Sarvary, Travaris Dorsey/Antonio Riles
RT: Rod Johnson, Andrew Mike?

Not very impressive, although both tackles will have the potential to be very good. New recruits are a must, and maybe one instant impact Juco. We really have to hope that the 2013 and 2014 offensive recruiting classes pay off and that someone like Riles can make a clean transition to OL.

Talent over experience is fine unless you are talking about big uglies...true frosh get their lunch money taken by SEC DL....its a fact no matter how damn great they are...now some are very quick learners and can hold their own after a few games...but its tough.

I agree that next year the OLine positions are not loaded...however the Clearwater kid who transferred from Nebraska is a junior I believe and Humphries isn't going pro....that would be insane....and I think he is only a soph now with little experience and the NFL knows that OL is tough. After junior year...yeah he may leave.

I kinda understand why Boom concentrated on defense especially his first year...just watch the damn girls school game in the Swamp 2011 for frustration both off/def,

He vowed to make the Gators tougher and stated after girls school game that we were soft...he was right. One year later he turned it around and we were a hard nose defense (2012)....if you inherit a team and want to win, then put defense first as a rule because its easier to win games that way...offense gets rebuilt as a slower pace.

But his classes of 2012-13 should have had at least one or two more OL....doesn't help either when a bulldozer of a guard that was highly sought after is a twit and gets kicked off team.
