Pretty much what was suspected. 0.17 BAC for the driver and over 3 BAC for Lutz.

Hoping it wouldn't be the case. Totally avoidable with better judgement.

ESPN sent out an alert telling Lutzenkirchen's BAC without reporting that he wasn't the driver. Only ESPN can get away with that.

I don't see how it is relevant that he was drunk

Not surprised. Who hasnt been there. Lutz wasnt driving. He should have had a seat belt on. Suspect it was one of those deals where the "less drunk" person drove but shouldnt have.

tRant thread is full of moral high horses and intentional jimmy rustling. Best avoided.

Feel bad for Lutz as he probably wasn't in any condition to dictate his circumstances. Fault still lies with the driver.

Yup, Lutzie had the option to both wear his seatbelt or not get into the vehicle with someone that impaired. It's a crappy situation all around, but he bears equal responsibility.

ESPN is pretty low with the way they reported his BAC. Only once you get into the article does it mention he wasn't the driver.

yea, I hate it for everyone involved and know everyone here is still very emotional about it but what they did was wrong. All 4 of the kids in the car put their own lives as well as the lives of everyone else on the road near them in mortal danger.

I liked Lutz as much as anyone here but reporting his BAC is not the issue with it. Of course ESPN is going to do what they can to get people to read the story. Thats what they do.

It was just as much his responsibility as the guy who was behind the wheel. Everyone was drunk and they all knew it.

When your blood alcohol is nearly .4 and the other guy is nearly .2, how can you tell the other guy isnt sober? he would seem so if you are twice as drunk.

Whatever, a great, great tragedy. booze and cars do not mix. Hope some parents will use this to highlight the fact to their college age kids.

At least one great young man, and probably two, were killed because of it. Very sad.

That's why you have to use good judgement before you start drinking.

Are you with someone who is driving and also drinking?

Did this a few times in college and almost paid the price. I vowed to never ride with a drunk driver again and haven't. Toward the later years at AU i used to just run home if I didn't have a driver.
