Defeating LSU Should Be Arkansas' First Major Goal

Teams that went 4-8 and 3-9 came close to pulling off the upset versus two teams that finished 10-3. If terrible Arkansas teams can compete with good LSU teams, imagine who all Arkansas might be able to beat when they're decent again.
I believe Arkansas can defeat LSU playing LSU ball with inferior talent and resources. Will they? Who knows.

I stated that knocking off LSU should be the first major goal because I think that's the first major win a rebuilding Arkansas can obtain.
The argument has often been presented that Arkansas won't be able to win playing Alabama and LSU's game with inferior talent. Well, I agree on the Alabama part. Alabama is an ordeal for LSU to defeat despite Alabama and LSU being nearly even in talent and coaching. Saban's teams have been built to shut down pro-style offenses, i.e. power running games. LSU has significantly better defensive talent, recruiting grounds, and coaches than the Arkansas program, so I'd be surprised to see Arkansas compete with Alabama anytime soon.
Arkansas has given LSU a lot more trouble over the past 7 seasons than Alabama. Arkansas' chances of defeating LSU seem much higher than their chances of defeating Alabama.
Arkansas will need to shore up that defense and add some major tricks to the bag to take down Alabama, but LSU should be their first big target.

Arkansas will beat LSU this season, so I think it'll be a solid accomplishment to mark their progress.
But competing with Alabama or LSU to challenge for the SECW runner up position won't come for a while still. Alabama seems entrenched at #2, while I expect LSU, TAMU, and MSU to compete for #3. Arky may be able to get in that #3 convo next season.

This isn't exclusive to Arkansas, unfortunately.
Les's teams routinely play down to inferior teams, Arkansas and Ole Miss being the most common ones.

Helps really. I know what you're saying, but expecting Arky to compete with Auburn is a tall order, beating an LSU team at the end of the year that has likely already lost 3 games with TAMU still to go, is more feasible.

I was thinking not finishing last in the west or maybe winning an SEC game, but sure I agree they should try to beat LSU too.

Lsu is our 10th game of the year, we play Ole Miss and Mizzou after them.
