Outside of football the state of Alabama is a national joke. One of our elected officials, "Twinkle" Cavanaugh recently suggested we "pray" away government regulations rather than yanno, identify a strategic plan to address the issue. However, the reason she felt so comfortable making this suggestion is that she knows many of her constituency are so poorly educated such proclamations are the most effective way to reach them.
Many of the people we're laughing at are near the bottom of the socioeconomic scale. Their daily life is a struggle and Alabama football has become their escape. They are unlikely to be able to afford game day tickets and events such as fan day offer them access to Alabama which they would otherwise not have. Essentially, they are people trying to find joy and happiness the best way they know how.
Similar events happen at other schools but Bama fans have become a national representation of the southern college football fanMaybe I'm becoming soft but running of the gumps, family pictures, and wedding proposals at the spring game as a national punchline is sad and no longer amusing to me. Again it's people doing the best they can with what they've got.

Tl;dr: When seeing stupid redneck Americans congregate in one place and do stupid shite in unison stops being amusing is when I will probably get sick of living in a country and state with them. That day has yet to come

Well then you'll have to deal with it because millions still think it's hilarious regardless what you think and we gumps will continue to do it. And people outside the state of Alabama will still laugh at what they consider to be a shite state because they have little dick syndrome.

Don't get high and mighty. Your BCS trophy a few years ago brought out some interesting folks too. Alabama just has more fans and more crazies to deal with.

Those idiots sprinting for Saban's autograph are probably responsible for putting people like her into office.

I'm well aware of this. I feel bad for our state as a whole, regardless of football affiliation

By the way, your girl Twinkle is a proud graduate of Auburn University. War Eagle.

Jay Leno after Bama beat Notre Dame on BCSCG
"Congratulations to the state of Alabama. They are number one in college football and 50th in everything else"

Sure Auburn has its share of trash sidewalk fans as does every SEC school. But sorry we arent any where near the same level as Bama fans. This is the one positive of being Bama's self-proclaimed "little brother." The inbred masses flock to you guys. Sorry, its just the truth. (And I appreciate that the "gumps" do not include the majority of Bama grads - those are two different demographics.)

Didn't know this. I was never able to get past an elected official and grown arse woman being called "Twinkle"
