I call BS we should be between 2-3 IMO and definently ranked ahead of OU and Oregon. OU's only ranked this high because they beat Bama in the Sugar Bowl but I'll be damn didn't Auburn win the Iron Bowl?

Would rather be lower and win our way up, than start out high and have all the pressure. Traditionally, starting out high never works in our favor.

This is not your Father's Auburn team. Out with the old, in with the new...blah, blah, blah.
I do think we will see old bad habits fade away with Gus at the helm. It just feels different.

#5 is perfect for me. We are very good and only need to move up a few spots to ensure we make the playoffs.

Don't see how you can complain about a Top 5 ranking. I'm just fine where we are
Also here's the blurb they said about us

5. Auburn: The Tigers broke the SEC mold a bit last year riding a high-octane spread rather than a lock-down defense to the coveted league title. Despite the loss of TB Tre Mason, look for more of the same from Auburn with Nick Marshall back at QB. Though Mason is gone from the nation's leading ground offense in 2013, the receiving corps returns most of its production and adds potential star D'haquille Williams from the junior college ranks. The defense will have to get better, but LB Cassanova McKinzy should emerge as a leader.

I want more pressure to be on Bama. 5th still has pressure but not nearly as bad as being 1st. I would prefer around 10 if there was a legit case for 9 teams to be ranked ahead of us.
As far as being where we are ranked, I think they should do just like they do with the #1 team, where they say they deserve to be there until someone else beats them. Especially not be behind a team that should take a step back if anything and lost to us.

Doesn't matter. Win our games and it takes care of itself. Don't get worked up about preseason opinions.

You guys make valid point and #5 is a good spot for us. I was just expecting us to be ranked #3 at least so I admit to being a bit disappointed.
That being said, should we make it through this schedule unscathed and win an NC, we shall be proclaimed tGOAT College Football team and all will bow in our presence

Don't understand this attitude at all.
Its better to start high and stay there than to start low and try to make it to the top.
Just ask the 2004 team.

That is a little different. If the argument is being top 10 or 23 or whatever we were in 04, sure. However I would much rather be 5-10 instead of 1 or 2 to start the season.

But starting #5 vs. #3 historically has no relevance on where you end up. Just being top 5 is good enough in that you take care of business, you will be in the playoff this year.

5th means just one team above you has to lose to make the playoffs. Perfect spot.

And since we play one of those teams I guess we are in the perfect position

Auburn plays 7 ranked teams in the regular season - the most of the SEC. For comparison, that's over double the average for the four teams ranked ahead of Auburn, who play a combined number of only 12 ranked teams. Tall order for Auburn.
