1. In the Laminated Approach alternate
parallel bands of public space and housing
rows ensure high-quality, socially active
frontage for all housing units. The proposal
features a block-long allee with courtyards,
patios, and public recreation

2. In an attempt to reimagine the low-density
development familiar to most people, the
Pixelated Approach creates micro-scale
housing pockets and open spaces. West
Avenue is reformatted into a boulevard
providing a stately setting for the arts district and new burn housing.

3. The Anchor Approach accommodates
festivals with a central town plaza, projecting
a strong civic identity around which mixeduse
housing and commercial functions
are arranged. The town plaza provides
much needed public assembly space
commensurate with the growing density of
the downtown arts district. (see page 56)

4. The most ambitious scheme, the
Mountain Approach stacks housing into
dramatic terraced formations, providing the
district and the region with a powerful new
architectural icon that complements the
Walton Arts Center’s renovated campus.
Terraced housing provides the city with an
unrivaled supply of premium urban housing
that capitalizes on its

I'm tired of these Hippies always going Portland, OR on Fayetteville's exterior but at least they are planning for infill even if it's ugly. I seriously might run for city council one day to incorporate some history and buildings that will stand the eye test past 15 years. There is such a lack of cohesion on campus and in Fayetteville as people are building wildly. Why can't we incorporate our French heritage and southern flair?

Which of the 4 scenarios do you like and why? There is plenty of information and ugly pictures to look at.

Can you imagine all the toe shoe wearing yuppies that will be infesting this already liberal pillar of sin? Somebody should take a picture of all the losers and bring them here so we can smear shite all over our faces and make out to the wrongness of it all.

Not sure of the area in which they want t do this, so I really don't have an opinion.

I would say its awesome, but it all depends on the area.

I'm all for the development, balking at the building designs because I am thinking 25 years down the road.

Damn, that Executive summary though, a little rough on the city.

I breezed through it and I don't see any downsize to having this. I would prefer the Pixalated or Mountain, just because of the impact to the street environment.

Anything that will help grow BBB, I'm all for.

I kid.

I do like the concept and not sure how it will considered a negative. I do agree with you regarding the architecture in some aspect, but it would be viewed as an Arts district, so that won't really be an issue.

They will grow and change with the times.

UACDC released that last spring. I know its conceptual, as far as just the massing and arrangement of the propsed development patterns, but I hope none of those "designs" get built.

I like some aspects of what they are proposing. Once the WAC lot is developed, well....I'm not sure. Fayetteville might be on par with any college "town" in the country. The new garage is getting row-houses along School near Kingfish. I know its been said before but in 5 years, downtown Fayetteville will be transformed (again).

Also, with what is happening in what they refer to as the Mill District, that area will be lumped in with the definition of "downtown" before long. Its just down the hill from the Fay public library anyway.

Are you Sunny on the Flyer? Someone there is commenting in same vein as far as architectural style. I'm fine with modern and think it fits Fayetteville well due to our Jones school influences, but I do agree that current trends (modus, Jacobs Newell) may not stand test of time (despite the fact that I have a house in that style).

I agree with you here. Old Main would look at home in Paris. It is a very French-looking building, IMO, especially on the approach from LaFayette Street. I'm all for more balconies and better looking development. They do try to emulate Portland and Boulder way to fricking much.

Mel Collier now owns and is supposedly shopping for designs for retail/mixed use for the corner of Block and Dickson, which has been a parking lot since the old gas station there went away in the late 90s. I'm not encouraged by his recent collaboration with Modus, who designed his proposed Collier Place development (which was shelved when the property sold to a California developer).

Hopefully they get a little more Frank Sharp type guys working on some better architecture. I like some modern stuff, because we left the sleepy quaint college village motif behind in the 80s. It isn't sustainable for as large a city as we are going to be. Good design is good design. I can't say I'm a fan of Modus' stuff, though. Even their new offices downtown look like shite to me.

I understand the "Arts" parts if the contrast developments go hand-in-hand with the historic district of Fayetteville from Dickson to the Square.

I do not have a flyer account to post. I do enjoy the website. There are a few people speaking about traditional architecture, which I completely agree with.

While we are on the subject. I am tired of the modern crap on campus too.

Every time these guys are hired we get crazy rooflines and horrible designs. Miller Boskus Lack (Fayetteville), Architects. I've decided everything south of Bell Engineering building is dead to me on campus.

More of these guys please..

Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas (Norfolk, VA) with
Witsell Evans Rasco (Little Rock) and
Core Architects (Rogers), Architects

Built the new Founder Hall (Gothic)

Yes! My feelings exactly.

Yes please.

Mix modern touches with this design just as they did with Founders Hall (Gothic) with modern touches on campus.

I don't know, what we call "modern" architecture originated over 100 years ago. I don't think it's going to suddenly look dated in 15 years.

I'm pretty sure people were saying the same thing in 2000 and 1990.

What's going to happen? We suddenly return to historical styles and modernism dies out entirely? Modernism is a historical style now.

All styles are technically historical. Even what we consider to be traditional gothic architecture only mimicks older styles.

I agree that Miller Boskus Lack sucks balls. I haven't seen anything they've designed that I like.
