I am visiting some family in Mississippi and the kids want to go to the beach. I have not been to the Mississippi coast since the early 80s, what are the nice beaches to take the kids to. Thanks.

Literally none of them. Go to Gulf Shores

The only good beach you will find is Ship Island. Gotta take a ferry to get there. It's like $27 per adult. It's $17 for children aged 3-10. Any other Mississippi beach is gonna be trash.

OK, Gulf Shores is not really an option. Looking for a quick day trip coming from Hattiesburg area. Is there nothing on the MS Coast????

There are beaches but there aren't any good ones. If you're in Hattiesburg it will take you less than 3 hours to get to Gulf Shores. You may have to get up early and go but it would be worth it. I hope you find something though.

The beaches in MS have no wave action because of the barrier islands out there which sucks.
I agree with what Hazmoo said. Your best bet is to take a boat (if your family has one) or go on one of the ferrys to ship island. They are not cheap but they are the nicest as far as MS goes. Look up Ship island on youtube and take a look at some pics. Cool place.
link to the ferry.

I'm from Pass Christian, so you can take this as Gospel.
You have two options:
1) Go to one of the Islands not named Deer
2) Go to GS/OB/somewhere else
3) Go to Bay St. Louis
The beaches along the Coast are manmade and have coarse, shell-filled sand. They're pretty to look at, but they're likely not a "beach" in the traditional sense.
Take a trip to Ship or Cat Island if you really want to get a "beach experience."
BSL is a wonderful town and, although the beach isn't as nice as Destin or Orange Beach, the town itself will provide lots of entertainment opportunities for you and your family.

Henderson Point is the best beach around that area.
I'd explore Pass Christian and Bay St Louis downtown areas.

I didn't know you were from down here
Seriously though, listen to what he said.
The islands are fun as shite, but if you're coming from Hattiesburg I'm going to assume you don't have a boat and the ferry is kind of expensive for a big group.
Downtown Ocean Springs is also a nice place. I'm not as familiar with the BSL / Pass Christian area.

No, my address is technically Moss Point, but I don't live anywhere near Moss Point.
I live out off of the Franklin Creek Road Exit right before you get into Alabama. My house is in Mississippi and since the state line is in the middle of our street, our mailbox is in Alabama.

So, are you an Alabama citizen or a Mississippi citizen?

Mississippi brah.
Also, Moss Point is correct. That's why I went to a nice private school in Mobile.

UMS, St. Paul's, or McGill?
Mobile's private schools are very good.

Faith Academy
Bigger than UMS and St. Pauls, just not as expensive. We also have been playing public school sports since the year after I graduated.
