#Mizzou WR Levi Copelin suspended for the year by NCAA. Copelin says it is due to failed drug test resulting from an over the counter (1/2)

Supplement that is legal and available to the public but not approved by the NCAA (2/2)

What a ridiculous rule. The punishment certainly does not fit the "crime".

Yet another reason why the NCAA is arse backwards.

Having said that, we were under great scrutiny in college, all supplements were to be approved by the training staff to make sure this kind of thing didn't happen. We were given a catalogue and told to pick what we wanted, anything we used that wasn't bought through the school needed to be approved.

Pretty dumb if there wasn't a strong message sent from the training staff on what not to take.

And this is a semi big loss, one of the main deep threat options with game experience.

hmm, sounds like something that may be appealed.

I don't disagree he would be valuable in the lineup but not really that much of a "deep threat" guy, his role was more like a TJ Moe short field possession guy in my view.

also good tweet by:
Gabe DeArmond @GabeDeArmond
Over the counter supplement gets you a year from the NCAA. Knocking out a woman gets you 2 games in NFL. Someone please explain.

Not even close to the same type of guy, imo. TJ was a slow twitch big body with sticky hands. Levi is more of a gazelle type, lean and very fast twitch. He's the fastest white person on the team.

What game did he have that deep catch, the one the announcer called him DGB?

trouble believing he's faster than Leftwich, who is a state champion track star.

Either way he's not tall and didn't have the hands of TJ, so I agree in part, he needed to be more like TJ though.

Not 100% but think it was Toledo

His body is nothing like TJ's, he's not that type at all.

I believe it was Matter who called him the fastest player on the field as a true freshman. (Would think J'Mon Moore is faster now).

I like Dave but his opinion is his opinion, his judgement on such things I put little stock in.

So lets make a list..

Things TJ and Coplin have in common:

Short
White
Play Receiver

differences:

hands
build
speed

I don't know, I call it a push.

I'd still prefer another TJ Moe to a short, white kid who might be fast but doesn't have great hands and has problems staying eligible and out of trouble.

Yea, I don't get the comparison either.

They should definitely appeal this. If it's legal and OTC, I don't see the problem. Did they label it performance enhancing? If so, why is it legal? We need him - this could be big. He's poised to break out, and we don't need to lose another receiver with experience.

And I didn't think Copelin was short, I thought 6"2 or so? Either way, I don't think he was at the H, was he?

One (Copelin) was 6'2" 190. The other (TJ) was 6'0" 200. One (TJ) was at the H. The other (Copelin) was slotted to play the H. After that I don't know what to say. No one is like anyone yet we are all the same?!?!

I'm sure they will, but it's the NCAA, so chances are slim they do the right thing.

I feel bad for the kid.

He wasn't at the H before. He was in the latest depth chart. But his latest move on the depth chart, that also included dropping to 3rd string, might have been the result of these these going on. If he didn't have these issues, it would have been interesting to see if he would have stayed as #2 at the Y.

I do and I don't. He could have gone through the program but he went outside of it. That's just stupid. Also, unless I'm mistaken, the kid had been busted with DGB before for dope and reading on him here because of this, I see where he has an August trial date on some disturbing the peace arrest or charge or ticket or something from January. Not sure what that was all about. Apparently also didn't feel it was necessary to pay rent at one point or something. Sued for that.

ETA - Looked up the January incident and I remember it now. He went to get a replacement ID, was told there was a hold on his account and couldn't. Threatened to blow up the school. The girl said, well don't do it when I'm here. And he said, well don't come to work tomorrow. Obviously doubt he was serious, but he was stupid.

A pot-head and a hot-head. Great combination. Plus he's not smart enough to follow instructions about supplements that can get you auto-banned. Sounds like just the kind of narcissism every team should avoid.

I didn't know about the other issues.
More or less I was reminded of the Kolton Houston issue at UGA and how unfair the NCAA acted in that matter.

Don't get me wrong. A whole year seems stiff. But the kid isn't exactly the brightest. At least by his actions.
