Stephen A Smith's video

Smith began by explaining that men have no business putting their hands on a woman, but then took a left turn.

"But what I've tried to employ the female members of my family, some of who you all met and talked to and what have you, is that again, and this what, I've done this all my life, let's make sure we don't do anything to provoke wrong actions, because if I come, or somebody else come, whether it's law enforcement officials, your brother or the fellas that you know, if we come after somebody has put their hands on you, it doesn't negate the fact that they already put their hands on you. So let's try to make sure that we can do our part in making sure that that doesn't happen. "

"We also have to make sure that we learn as much as we can," Smith says, "about elements of provocation."

But what about addressing women on how they can help prevent the obvious wrong being done upon them?

Michelle Beadle responds on Twitter:

Michelle Beadle ? @MichelleDBeadle
So I was just forced to watch this morning's First Take. A) I'll never feel clean again B) I'm now aware that I can provoke my own beating.

I'm thinking about wearing a miniskirt this weekend...I'd hate to think what I'd be asking for by doing so @stephenasmith. #dontprovoke

I was in an abusive relationship once. I'm aware that men & women can both be the abuser. To spread a message that we not 'provoke' is wrong

Violence isn't the victim's issue. It's the abuser's. To insinuate otherwise is irresponsible and disgusting. Walk. Away.

Everyone is responsible for the situations they put themselves in.

Its like saying that if a woman dresses sexy and walks through a NYC ally at 3am did she help her situation. You always take some personal responsibility. Yea people shouldn't take or kill, but it happens so try to do yourself a favor and always think to lower chances.

But idiots with small minds will always use political incorrectness for their cause.

I think Steven A. and Ray Rice should try to hit this. Then lets see what happens.

Stephen A. Smith is a race baiter and one of the group of black sports journalists that led the public execution of Tim Tebow. He always comes to the rescue of the black male athlete and he has been afforded a certain level of immunity that a lot if black journalists enjoy to be able to say what ever they want with no real threat of retribution. It's high time ESPN deals with him. He will be leaving First Take to join some radio show not associated with ESPN but we all know the Disney people finally had enough of him.

I've managed to go 34, almost 35 years only getting in 1 fight. And that one fight I was in, yeah I was fanning the flames. The guy attacked me. Yeah it was still his fault for attacking me but had I kept my mouth shut, it wouldn't have happened. I don't see why this concept is hard to grasp.

I don't recall one instance in which I was just walking down the street, carrying myself like a civilized human being and someone just beat the crap out of me. When I behaved like a degenerate human being, that's when I was more at risk for getting into a physical altercation.

Lesson learned. If everyone behaves like a civilized human being, men and women, the likelyhood of these types of issues occuring will be minimized.

It's a grey area and every situation is different.

I once had a GF flip out and start throwing shite at me while sittingon the couch. I simply got up and left without saying a word. She called an hour later to appologize.

Another time a girl I had hooked up with then blown off saw me out one night and walked up and punched me in the face. I looked at her a moment, the one punch seemed to satisfy her, so I didn't say anything and just walked off. Told the bouncer that came running up it was cool, I deserved it.

However, if a female attacks me and continues the attack and does some damage, she is going head first into a wall or getting thrown on the ground at a minimum. I'm a guy and bigger and stronger and have a responsibility to excercise restraint to a point. But if I'm being hurt or injured whoever doing it is going to get hurt worse if I'm capable. Male or female.

Never liked Smith for this very reason. its hard to take him seriously on any point because of it.

First off, Beadle is an idiot.

Secondly, there is definitely a certain type of woman who pushes the limit of the unwritten rule that a man should never put his hands on a woman. I've seen women spit, hit, kick men knowing that they won't hit back. As I've said before, I don't have a problem with a guy getting hit with an assault charge for putting his hands on someone but if she was physically attacking him then he better not be the only one with an assault charge.

Is every woman in an abusive relationship provoking it? Absolutely not. There are definitely many cases where women are unjustly abused. People like Beadle who automatically assume that's what he's talking about have some comprehension issues. And I'll even go as far to say the women who provoke that shite then cry abuse when they get a taste of their own medicine are taking away from women who are legitimately abused.
