I heard this schedule suggested in another thread. I thought it was pretty intriguing, so I wanted to explore it further. The concept of this schedule is that each team gets 3 permanent rivals and plays 5 rotating conference games, meaning that every team plays every other team home and away every 4 years. Let's take a look at who those rivals would be in this scenario.

Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee, LSU
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia, Florida
Ole Miss: Miss State, LSU, Vanderbilt
Miss State: Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas
LSU: Texas A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss
Texas A&M: LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou
Arkansas: Texas A&M, Mizzou, Miss State

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn
Georgia: Florida, Auburn, South Carolina
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt, South Carolina
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky
Kentucky: Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Miss State
Mizzou: Texas A&M, Arkansas, Kentucky
South Carolina: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee

Feel free to post your own versions of everyone's 3 rivals as well to comment on the plan in general.

If this happened there would be no point in having divisions

Also LSU would swap Alabama with Arkansas as a permanent rival

How would you determine who goes to ATL?

ALabama has Auburn/LSU/Tennessee? RC wont allow it.

Take out LSU and put in Miss State.

Interesting concept. Arky, MSU and Mizzou would definitely be the benefactors of that arrangement. I like it though.

Auburn would have Bama, Florida and UGA. We would love going back to our traditional rivals even though it is a very difficult schedule.

The biggest positive to this is getting to play all the schools home/away while a player was in college. That is the biggest problem I see right now. A player could be a 4 year player and never play in some of the stadiums.

that is unfortunate, unless of course they get to skip Starkville.

I don't get too caught up in all the schedule/realignment bs, but would a 9 game schedule under the current format solve this issue as well?

The only downside to me is the possibility of having to break a two way tie between teams that did not play each other in order to go Atlanta.

That may be a price worth paying for a better scheduling format, though.

A 9 game schedule would be a 6-1-2, 6 permanent division foes, one cross division rival, 2 tables of the covenant, and one God of the World, oh wait...wrong religion.

Having 2 games against rotating division teams would mean that every 6 years, a team would play all of the opposite division teams home and away. I think most fans are in favor of this, but there seems to be resistance from some ADs and coaches in the SEC for adding another conference game.

I like the suggestion in the OP, but it will never happen. I think the 9 game schedule happens within 5 years. I think they want to see how the playoff committee thing works to make sure a 9th game would be a positive move as opposed to a negative one in the committees' view.

I hope this is the case, but you never know with the SEC. Usually, the conference is pretty smart about decisions which could potentially net the conference more money, but sometimes they like to engage in odd, random decisions.

If Autonomy passes, I wonder if part of that will be allowing the P5 conferences deciding how their champion is decided, meaning there wouldn't be a need for divisions.

Which ultimately may be a benefit 2 getting more teams in the playoff with having the top 2 overall teams play.

I like the 3-5 or even 3-6 ( which might be better).

I was originally thinking 2-6, but that may be to difficult.

In the 2-6 schedule,
LSU: Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia
Arkansas: Mizzou, Texas A&M
Ole Miss: Miss State, LSU
Miss State: Ole Miss, Vanderbilt
Texas A&M: Arkansas, LSU

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina
Georgia: Florida, Auburn
South Carolina: Florida, ?
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Miss State
Kentucky: ??
Mizzou: Arkansas, ?
