Spivey expressed support for exploring the idea of a sports program. Northwest Arkansas is rich in athletic talent, he said.
"I believe right now there are eight kids on the Bentonville High School football team who have Division I offers," he said. "The quality of athletes we have in Northwest Arkansas is amazing."

It's telling that he didn't say the whole state has amazing talent

Nope, no talent in the rest of the state.

Seems a little wasteful, IMO. And the kids with D1 offers from Bentonville are going D1. I don't understand the reasoning they are trying to use to support the idea.

It raises the profile of the school and I don't know, but I want a feeder program in our backyard.
We don't take many JUCO kids but for a guy like Jovan Pruitt instead of him being in S. Texas, put him in Bentonville, get him a job in one of the stores making some spending money, have Lindsey subsidy an apartment, Pell Grant him, out of area tuition waiver him, and let him come down and work out in our weight room and spend time with the team getting ready.
It probably doesn't make sense but I'd like to see there be some opportunities for area kids to keep playing and varsity sports at NWACC would definitely help provide that.

Ok. I agree that it would help some kids who don't have any other options to play college ball, and it could attract some special cases who now go to Coffeyville or wherever up in Kansas.

All of this.

I love that they are going baseball first. They should be able to put together complete scholarships for baseball, which is a lot better than the Hogs can do.
