quote:

There are bad kids, dumb kids and entitled kids everywhere. There are kids who’ve broken laws since the age of 12 because they never were forced to realize the consequences of their actions. There are kids who believe sprinkling (medical) marijuana on their morning Cocoa Puffs is harmless — and the only possible remedy for their anger-management issues.

Dumb kids are not a Georgia football problem. Dumb kids are everybody’s problem.

quote:

Here’s Georgia’s problem: They still have too many dumb or entitled kids. It doesn’t mean they dominate the roster, but it doesn’t take many to dominate the headlines. That’s a reflection of the program — and, therefore, the coach who runs it, Mark Richt.

quote:

And here it comes from the yahoos in the cheap seats: How the hell are we going to win a championship with a bunch of angels!

News flash: There is no mandate that champions come with an arrest record.

There are rules. There are laws. Follow them. Is that really so hard?

quote:

Criticism of Georgia’s tough drug policy also is misplaced....But whining about standards and guidelines isn’t going to change the situation. Bringing in better people might.

That’s on the head coach and the assistants who recruit for him. In the end, they’re the ones who are held responsible. They’re the ones whose jobs are on the line. Georgia has a problem, and therefore Mark Richt has a problem.

Jeff Schultz is a clown. We have our problems, but everyone is recruiting these "bad kids" that UGA gets.

LOL at his "Good kids don't get arrested" line

They're just like every major news source. Bad news sells papers, gets clicks, etc. You just have to rely on people to make good judgements on the value of the information and opinions being written.

So of course it gets linked on the rant

Arky won the Fulmer Cup in 2012 but has only had 1 arrest since Bielema took over. That was in February 2013 and he was booted off. It's less about the kids and more about institutional control by the coaches/staff.

bringing in better kids? ummm, some of these guys don't get into trouble until they are like, you know, away from home.

A lot of young people can't handle being away from home and shite flies. Fights, drug use, underage drinking, even the sexual harrasments. They are young idiots living in the moment and don't think twice about the consequences.

A kid can fly straight or at least under the radar for the most part in high school.

Ok, you can stop taking kids out of the hood, all that would really stop is the armed robbery. Entitled kids, rich kids, suburban kids, still smoke, drink, fight, force girls into sexual favors, etc. I mean did being really smart stop those Vandy kids from rape? One day you can brag about your conference or school being clean (BIG 12) and then the next, you've got arrests and dismissals out the ying yang.

You can talk about judging character all you want, but you really have no idea.

ETA: some are easy to point out while recruiting, but not all, and sometimes, you get a ticking time bomb.

Maybe you're right but it's hard to see it as a coincidence. Bielema's Wisconsin team had the lowest arrest rate in the NCAA I believe. It's too much of a coincidence that TPOS Petrino players stopped TPOSing pretty much as soon as Bert arrived. Too much going on there for it to just be luck IMO.

That's an interesting way to describe 'rape'.

Our arrest have slowed to a crawl since Gus arrived. Id like to think it is because of him. But I am not sure thats it.

Bert will have to recruit different type of players here than he did in Wisky... In turn he will have more issues. There is no avoiding it.

Richt doesn't command respect. He's just riding the wave of mediocrity unti he retires in 10 years.

There will be problems for sure. I'm not saying no player will ever get arrested again. But I'd be shocked if it ever gets near Petrino levels despite recruiting players from the same areas

Charlie Strong is changing the culture at Texas for the same reasons. I don't think it's to no avail. They will have the same type of kids but disciplinary issues will be significantly less once he gets it turned around. Book it

FWIW, I think other schools should stop recruiting players that Georgia wants. Clearly they're bad kids who aren't worth the trouble, but UGA will accept the burden of dealing with these reckless but talented kids.

It's not the kids. The kids are the same everywhere. It's the coach that they don't respect and that is the problem.

Richt and Sumlin both
