I know that people like to joke about it but how is it really? I'm thinking about going to our game there this year. Will I enjoy the town?

Actually one of the best compliments paid to State on here was from an Arkansas fan. It was the 2OT Nick Bell game. Dude was actually blown away by the pregame atmosphere.

Not bad. Not great. If you get drunk what difference does it make?

The biggest factor working against Starkville is the fact that it's in Mississippi. If they could overcome that, it would be a much nicer town.

It's just a flatter version of Fayetteville Ar.

Pig-Sooieee and the cowbells are equally annoying IMO.

it's the worst trip in the SEC, but that said it's not really "bad" per se. If that's the only away game you're going to be able to get to go to then i would suggest somewhere else but it's worth doing once.

Not as bad as its rep is. It's getting a lot better, but still has a good ways to go. Junction is a fun time.

not sure why this is difficult to understand ... statistically, you will see your team win if it's an sec team ...

unless you're ole miss ... ...

A small southern town. I am sure you have been to plenty like it. Boring if you aren't a student.

Eta: if you are just going for a game day weekend you will have fun.

I assume you're just frickin with the Hog posters BC... The bar scene is Fayetteville kills the bar scene in Starkville... Not even close.

But I've had some really fun times in Starkville... It's still a college town with hot Southern bitches at the end of the day.

It's a in a terrible area but their stadium is way nicer than Ole Miss.

Tailgating scene is nothing special but I like that it isn't as overcrowded as some schools.

I've enjoyed my trips there overall.

I remember on my one and only road trip to a game down there, that you couldn't by beer out of the cooler in the convenience store, had to buy it hot.
Asked the clerk (in a nice way) 'what the hell is this?'
Clerk smiled an said the mayor owned the local ice company.
This was back when we left Latourette (our kicker) home because of a dui, or suspicion of dui... We had just beaten Tennessee (when they were good) and lost at Davis-Wade on a very questionable field goal.

It's light years ahead of what it was when I first got there.

The quality is there, but the quantity of bars still sucks.

Living in the cotton district was the most fun years of my life.

I suppose that's warranted. Starkville has changed a lot in the last few years. Bars and restaurants are on the upswing but the biggest problem is hotel rooms. You aren't going to get many hotels to come though for 4 SEC weekends per year. Business model doesn't work. Campus, tailgating, stadium (now), game atmosphere all good.
