Saw this posted on the MSB, thought I'd post it here. Copying and pasting my response.

Per source, Sidney Rice's decision to retire arises from a history of concussions.

Yeah that's really a shame. Although I didn't attend his HS my family is from there, a lot of them still live there and pretty much everyone in my entire extended family did or does go there so I remember the chatter of his skill coming out of high school from them. He put that into an awesome career at SC despite only playing 2 seasons. Irrelevant to the point but I think he scored both of our TDs in our 16-15 2005 win @UT, our first ever win in Knoxville.

I know a lot of SC fans got mad at him because he said he was coming back for a 3rd but went to the NFL because he felt he couldn't wait any longer for the money to take care of his family.

I remember him being one of the 1st guys who answered reporters in college with a "yes ma'am, no ma'am. yes sir, no sir" type.

Put together all his footage and he has quite a collection of impressive catches. A shame this happened so soon in his career.

Shame to hear that: Rice was a great talent, but injuries just brought him down. Hope nothing but the best for him in his future...

Hoepfully we'll see him around SC football functions/games more. It's hard to do that when your playing in the NFL I imagine. He's invested a lot of his money in different franchises, so he'll be doing better than alright.

Ol' Sidney ... never could put a finger on that dude. Had two kids before he ever got out of high school. His NFL intro was, "Sidney Rice, Gaffney High School." Never understood why he did that.

I liked him ... never been sure that he really liked us. We were his last and only choice. Stockstill was ready to kick him off the team until Spurrier arrived and read Sidney the riot act. I dunno. I wish him well. I hope he does come back one day soon .... he probably will once he misses the attention.

Ever been to Gaffney? Never lived there but have been there at least 3-4x a year for my entire life. They live for that football team.

What do they have? 16 state titles or something?

2005-2006, (Spurrier's 1st 2 years) I believe he was a RS in 2004.

I truly believe him leaving earlier than expected made our offense take a significant step back in 2007.

Been to Gaffney many many many times. My niece lives there. Got good friends there. I go to HS ballgames there at least once a year ... including back when Sidney was there.

Not sure how many titles they have, but they have the best Gamecock Club in the state IMHO. There past two presidents are friends of mine.

Sindey was a RSSoph when he went early. I think Ko Simpson went that year or the next year as well maybe? I dunno.

Yeah, losing Sydney hurt but Kenny McKinley took up the slack IMHO. Would have been nice to have both of them though.
