Home Security Companies

We have Xfinity Home and it works well. A little pricey but no complaints. They installed it for free for us.

The home security business as a whole is about on par with the shadiest pawn shop you know.

Once you understand this then you have a 195% better chance of getting something that A. actually provides value.

B. didn't tear up your house and empty your wallet but provided little else.

Home burglar alarms are 100% based on "art & design."

The best feature of a home burglar alarm is a well placed (new looking) yard sign/ stickers.

Home Fire alarms shall follow applicable "codes & standards" such as NFPA-72 IBC, UL, and the NEC-70.

You have insurance to replace your stuff and a cell phone to call 911 if you're robbed even while home but, if your family burns up while you sleep then it doesn't matter....

Start with a monitored home fire alarm if you love your family, the burglar crap is just noise makers and gadgets get an airhorn from wallmart's marine section does more for less.

Choose a local company with certified technicians, in Alabama each technician must possess a valid state license and make sure you see their factory certification for the brand of system the are putting in.

Before you sign any agreement you should have the salesman provide you with a complete list of submitter documents showing each device and piece of equipment they will use is UL listed for the application.

This will have any trunk slammer running for the door and while johnny slick the sales weasel will bitch they will comply as it's normal business practice just, not readily made available for the general public.

Make your own checklist before and after the installation and have a representative sign off on it stating they did or did not damage any fixture or HVAC vent or drilled into anything. have the salesman sign it as well before you hand over the check.

This will protect you more than you know and if a legal dispute rises God forbid you will have some trump cards in hand.

Yep. I was pissed when my insurance company made us get a home security system. The house was already wired for it, and I just got the bare minimum plan. I haven't turned the thing on in 10 years and don't even remember the code for it.

When the contract with our local provider runs-out here at the main house, we're dumping Brinks and installing SimpliSafe here as well. We like everything about it better. We have ADT at the offices and we'll probably keep that because it's a write-off anyways, but I have actually considered installing SimpliSafe as a redundant back-up system.

I'm just impressed as heck with SimpliSafe's equipment. They started from scratch and they did it right.

Get the siren ... if that thing goes off indoors or out, no one is going to stick around. It'll make your head spin.

BTW, there is no reason everyone should not have video survelence these days as well. There are great systems out there these days. 6 cameras with infra red and DVRs for under $1000.00. Motion sensors, low profile cameras ... then you add a couple of cheap visible fake cameras for them to paint and you:re in business.

No ... but I used to know Glenn. Got a good picture of him and my wife and me together up in NYC when he was still working for HLN... he gave us a tour of the Time Warner Bldg and let us sit in the holy of holies, the TW screening room to watch him tape one of his shows. Deepak Chpora was his guest that night and I got to meet him ... did not like that guy in the least.

Glenn is not the same guy he was back in the day. I dunno, maybe it's all gone to his head or something.

Anyways, I actually think it was The Blaze where I first saw SimpliSafe, or NewsMax or Fox. Can't remember ... but it is the shizzizzel. It's impressive, it really is. Excellent customer service too.

this is some good info. it's a new house we had pre-wired so a sunk cost there if we go 100% wireless with Frontpoint or SimpliSafe right? We are doing video for sure for the outside. so seems like on this thread it's a toss up between SS and FP? do both have mobile device monitoring capability?
