All the nostalgic threads about seasons past yesterday on the SECr got me thinking about the 2010 season. Its the offseason so here goes........

Lets say 2 things happen for us in 2010. A couple of plays and a couple of calls go our way and we end up beating Mississippi State and LSU. We get our arse beat by Auburn in the SEC Championship Game. We would of been a deceptively bad 10-4 SEC East champion. Do you think Urban stays and reloads or do you think he hauls arse to the ESPN booth still eyeing the Ohio State job. I am 50/50 on this leaning that he still leaves UF.

37 days till some college football and 39 for some UF football!

I don't think he stays.

He would've left UF regardless. He half assed it that season. Beating LSU and Miss State doesn't change anything.

I always felt like he coached that season half assed just to see how good a team could be only going half assed. Like an experiment of sorts.

Urban was a huge 'momentum' guy. I think if the season turned out better, he would have stayed.

Another thing to consider is that I think some of the seniors quit. They had just been part of an incredible 3-4 year run, but their last season went to shite. If instead we won against LSU and Miss St, they might have been more into it in the later of the season so that could have resulted in wins against Scar or FSU. Who knows though.

I do wonder if Urban abandoned Brantley too soon. I remember reading articles that the original plan against Miss St was to throw a lot, but Miss St stuffed it in the first drive or two, and Meyer panicked and just threw Burton in to 'manufacture' some offense. I think that hurt in the long run as it also totally killed Brantley's confidence.

The 2010 coaching staff was terrible.

The talent on the team wasn't so bad that year, but I think Meyer saw the writing on the wall that his recruiting had failed and his coaching staff was mediocre, so he left.

I don't think anything was going to stop him from leaving, and I think Foley begging him to come back is probably his worst mistake as an AD.
