The Big 12 was formed in 1994.

Was Arkansas ever contacted or offered the opportunity to rejoin the SWC teams that they left 4 years earlier?

Technically we started competition in 1991. 1992 was the first season of football.

We left the swc why would we want to have rejoined them?

They would have managed a couple north titles and lost in the championship game most likely. There wasn't much upside for them

I highly doubt we were asked at that point in time. The Texas schools hated our guts for leaving and hastening the demise of the SWC.

Arkansas in the big 12 north is an interesting hypothetical... Nebraska owned it, and KSU had their moments... arkansas would've faired better there than in they did in the SECW, but it's not like the west was all that awesome in the 90s.

Arkansas wouldn't have won the Big 12 North in the 90s. They're best years coincided with Nebraska, and KSU being top teams in the country.

They may have taken Baylors spot in the South though.

Correct, we accepted our invitation and joined in 1991. We were asked to join in 1990.

We would've beaten K-State in '98 and easily blown out the cupcake from the South in the title game.

Actually Texas and Texas A&M were looking to go elsewhere (either both to the SEC, or A&M to the SEC and Texas to the PAC).

However, state politics got in the way, and the two were forced into taking Baylor and Tech wherever they went. Thus, the Big 12, the only conference that would take them.

I highly doubt it. Most blamed us for the collapse at the time. We also burned every bridge possible with Texas on the way out the door. It was over a decade before they agreed to play us again after we left.

No, Baylor had a stranglehold on Texas politics and was NOT going to be left in CUSAville.

Arkie wasn't relevant enough for hate...pity maybe. After TX beat the Hogs in '69, it's been a downhill journey ever since.

How long has it been since Ark won a championship....40 years? 50?

Even the Big 12 was not that dumb. No one wanted them...kind of like today.

SEC saw Frank Broyles homeless picture on the side of a milk carton and they adopted them, thinking they would have a lifetime supply of bacon.

With any luck they will be joining SMU and Arkansas State in the Spring football league soon.
