He said LSU hates Auburn more than Auburn hates LSU. His theory is that lately, Auburn has won close/controversial games over LSU but the opposite hasn't really happened. He mentioned the 2004 & 2006 officiating controversies, as well as Tuberville and the cigars in 1999 (which I think started it all).

I thought about it and he has a point: Recently, when Auburn has beaten LSU it has been close, controversial, and has cost LSU the West. But when LSU has beaten Auburn it hasn't really cost Auburn anything (especially last year when the game turned out to be irrelevant to Auburn in hindsight), and 3 of the last 5 meetings have been LSU blowouts which take the refs out of the game.

This would explain the one-way hate. That, and Auburn doesn't have much hate left after they've used it all on Bama.

I have no hate for LSU and normally find the threads LSU posters post against AU as humorous since I assume they are doing it is jest. I am probably naive.

I would think this is it. Plus UGA. They already have 2 very old rivalries. And both teams are consistently good. Not our fault Tulane and Ole Miss fell off the deep end.

Yeah I don't really care about LSU

It's obviously a big game usually but I don't feel the hate towards them that they have for us

I'll root against LSU if they're competing with us for the west, and occasionally just to see the melt on Tiger Rant

LSU is a better program all time than Auburn, so I can see why they hate LSU.

I'm surprised there is not more discord between AU and LSU. There certainly has been enough classic games to warrant some nastiness towards each other.

Its mostly because Auburn is LSU's second biggest game while LSU is usually Auburn's third. While the game is big it means less than losing to or beating Bama or UGA.

I disagree w/ your friend, from what I've seen, AU people hate bama first, then Georgia second. However, when we play the gators, the hate flows pretty strong for them as well. Never noticed a strong hatred for LSU.

Except we don't... That's the point of the op and the perspective of almost every other post in this thread.

I never really had much hate for Auburn. It's always been a big game. Usually pulled for them unless it hurt LSU's ranking. Also enjoyed road trips to THAT campus in their state.
Christ we played one of our best games against them last year and they came within a hair of winning the whole damn thing.

Good post. I cant wait for the game this year. I look at LSU game as a DSOR with better tailgating food.

ETA: my wife is an LSU girl.

Never really thought much about hating Auburn. Y'all are just a good game.

It isn't like y'all are Arkansas or Ole Miss. They suck on the field and off.

Yeah I DGAF about LSU. I am friends with several LSU fans and it's just like, whatever.

I am hesitant to befriend Bammers when I know they're all going to put a pillow on my face when I go to bed

I'm now 21 and I could remember hating auburn because of those 2 games that the officials came into play. They became less hated by me when Saban started coaching at Alabama, it also helps that I'm about to be a senior at LSU and we're 3-0 against Auburn since I've been in school including 2 whippings in Death Valley. I pretty much root for auburn against most schools for now.
