This has the potential to get real ugly real fast.

LINK

This will not be like the old days. Hamas is baiting them in - they've been prepping for this for years.

I don't think so. The Israelis are about to wreck Hamas. You can only poke a tiger for so long until he decides that he's had enough. There will be Israeli casualties, but a ground invasion is their only option at this point.

The Israelis will never resolve this until there is an absolute winner in an all out war. All or nothing.

It depends entirely on how many fricks Israel gives about what the US and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world thinks.

If they take the gloves all the way off, it will be EXACTLY like the old days if not worse and I'm not thinking they're going to put much weight into anything we say.

Do you know why Israel won the Six Day War so fast?

The Israelis have the most powerful military in the middle east. By far!

Normally I would agree - and I still think the Israelis kick arse and take names but ... Hamas is better equipped these days and it'll be more of a fight this time around.

Remember, this one is basically two opposing forces fighting for what both believe is literally their home ground - bordering each other.

Nothing is ever worse than a border war.

I like was the Israelis are doing right now. Like us, they own the night.

Two things:

1) Incredible airforce
2) Innovation of the oozie gun

That, and the tanks were rented.

Do you? .... realize that you're comparing apples to oranges?

Do you realize that was forty something years ago?

Do you understand the nuances involved with fighting a modern day MOUT war?

Do you understand modern anti-tank and anti-aircraft weaponry being supplied to Hamas by Syria, Russia, Iran and China?

Do you understand the inherent problems with invading an urban environment with the expressed intent to destroy a tunnel system?

Do you understand the difference between attacking and defending against an invading army or armies, versus attempting to annihilate a zealot enemy who hides behind women and children?

Israel will plow through this fairly quickly I'd imagine. They have the best intel on earth and military technology bought and paid for by the USA. Hamas is in a hellhole of poverty and has rockets and suicide bombers. It's not a fair fight.

Thus Israel must get out quickly with as little collateral damage as possible. The international opinion will go sour quickly if a bunch of civilians end up dead. Yes they have the high ground after Hamas denied the ceasefire agreements, but start getting pictures of dead children out there and it goes the other way with quickness.

The cycle continues between two wrongheaded parties...

If Israel takes more than 20 casualties, I'll be surprised. Watching the videos of how stupid the Hamas militants have been indicates they have no training and no tactical abilities.

Billions of support to Israel annually, our bombs, guns, planes, etc. I'd say we're already involved, which is why we'll pay for this in more ways than one.

That ain't gonna happen.

The day that happens is the first day of WW III.

Israel can take care of itself ... for now at least. It'll change some day and we'll be forced to come to their rescue but, so far, the superpowers have all been smart enough to stay out of these fights because everyone knows where it would end-up.

The unwritten rule is to never put boots on the ground on that stretch of land ... you just don't do it and expect it to end well if you are the U.S., Russia, China, the U.K., etc.

I'd say that's already happened with the 4 kids killed on the Gazan beach yesterday.

Pretty much. I don't really blame either side for some of the actions they've taken, but then I absolutely blame them at the same time. Not sure how anyone without a vested interest in either side can take a side in it, unless they're just completely ignorant of the history there.

unlike us Israel doesn't give two fricks. they will win at all cost ww2 style instead of playing the lets tie our hands behind our back wars that we have played since then.
