LOS ANGELES - Kentucky's A.J. Reed was selected as the recipient of the 2014 Golden Spikes Award on Thursday, USA Baseball announced. In the prestigious award's 37th year recognizing the top amateur baseball player in the country, it was presented live on ESPN's SportsCenter by former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher and current college baseball analyst, Kyle Peterson. "A.J. Reed, Aaron Nola and Michael Conforto all represent the best of what college baseball is and should be," said USA Baseball's executive director/CEO, Paul Seiler. "These outstanding young men represented their universities with class both on and off the field this season and it is an honor to celebrate their accomplishments. Ultimately, A.J.'s season stood out above many deserving candidates, and we are delighted to present him with the Golden Spikes Award."
