Why Doesn't the Conference Negotiate Apparel deals for all members?

A brief break from the trolling and preseason threads. Does anyone know why apparel isn't handled at the conference level? The conference splits revenue and each school gets more as a unit in many other facets. It would seem that the brand names of the SEC would fetch a pretty good return if packaged together. Does anyone have any insight beyond what we all assume, which is each school probably wants to select its vendor?
Does anyone think a conference wide apparel deal is going to eventually come to fruition (think like what the NFL did recently in 2010, making Nike the league-wide source for uniforms starting in 2012)?

because different schools generate far more revenue for apparel and dont rely on the other schools to help them like with TV revenue

Who would negociate that deal and would they even have the power to dictate what is worn?

Sure. That's obvious. It is also the same in the NFL. The Cowboys and Redskins are much more desirable than the Titans and Jaguars. But, the rising tide lifts all boats. If you want the Cowboys and Skins, you have to take everyone else.
I wonder if that is something the conference will move to. Packaging everything increases the price for everyone. Seems like it could be yet another way for the conference to boost its revenue.

It would be the conference office and each member institution would have to agree to give up individual rights for the collective, think like the SEC Network.

I dont think NIKE would want to do this.
They stand to make more money picking thier clients like UGA and Bama and not being forced to make Vandy jerseys.
The NFL is not the same bec they are a brand that has guaranteed TV rights and so Dallas and the Titans both have the same potential coverage.
Its apples and oranges.

Yes, but with the SEC network, you are televising games and such. Its not just one team in a game.

Of course they are different. It's an analogy. It isn't supposed to be exactly the same. Also, Dallas and the Titans do not have the same coverage. They do have guaranteed tv rights, though.
If Nike has unequal bargaining power, which you seem to suggest by saying they would resist this, than it makes all the more sense for the conference to negotiate as a unit.

It is possible.
There are ppl a lot smarter than me that I am sure have looked at the numbers.

I think NIKE would rather spend thier money on the Top 14 teams they can pick and choose and not go in on a 14 team package.

Tell that to the checks the conference distributed this week, and the SEC network deal, the most recent CBS television deal, and the scheduling compromises . . .

The problem for Nike is that the SEC has the top football teams every year and two of the top basketball teams every year, all of the best baseball teams every year, most of the top women's basketball teams . . . etc. etc.
So what they would rather notwithstanding, this would be what they would have to do to get Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and Florida, and Kentucky, the proverbial cost of doing business.

Now, if you are talking about all sports, that would make it more difficult bec then you have to hope that NIKE has the technology to make the best swim suits for UF and AU, the best X country shoes for Arkansas, the best baseball cleats for LSU, etc...

Texas A&M was a Nike school for years.
But our PTB negotiated a better deal w Adidas.
All are very pleased w the results.
I can't imagine why the conference would want to get into making this kind of highly contextual, [non-sports related] decision for its members.

Imagine no more. Money. Also, it wouldn't be the conference wanting it. The members would see the potential to make more money. I'm sure the lower revenue schools would like to bargain as a unit for the best deal.

Alabama, as I'm sure every other school too, is more than capable of negotiating their own contracts. They don't need the sec's help.

It isn't about help, it isn't about one school, and this post is laughably bad. If you don't know anything about business, don't prove it by bringing this weak shite in this thread.
