I can save them time and money. Ticket prices are why most of us would rather watch at home.

interesting article but the writer doesn't really answer the question as to what Sporting was doing to increase fan attendance. All he says is that they hired an outside contractor to do it.

yes it did. They just didn't give it to you in a specific outline.

We started doing some of this last year, where people sign in and get rewards points and then you get perks or prizes. I think our problem is that the prizes blow, basically you had to go to every game this year men and womens and you get like a t-shirt. If you offered some season tickets or something people actually cared about you would probably see more use.

Really what they talk about is how the consulting firm does in depth analysis of who attends their games and why and then finds things that are of interest to them to enhance their experience. They are primarily focused on younger audiences in the case of UF who is looking to increase student attendance. Thus some of the ideas such as high speed WiFi and tailoring the concessions may have merit.
The greater message really though is just how people that attend games have shifted their expectations in terms of experience. It wasn't long ago that fans really just came for the game itself and had minimal expectations of perks. Now that you can watch games at home with incredible broadcast quality and tickets are far more expensive than the past the expectations for the overall experience are increased. Every college football program should be looking at fan experience or else they will be in big trouble if their team isn't winning or they don't have a schedule filled with huge games. Fans just expect more now and younger fans more than any.

The cost of attendance is definitely what is driving away your typical family. On top of tickets, you pay tradition fees, you pay to park, you pay to tailgate, you pay extra for bad concessions, too expensive to bring the family of four to a game anymore and that is what college sports were built on, not the corporate dollar that engulfs professional sports. Watch MLB games on tv, I'm amazed at all the empty seating. Turn on a minor league game, they are packing the place because it's fun for the family.

I can't speak for everyone... but Alabama will never have this problem.
The only problem I have even seen at most of the big schools in the SEC is staying for the whole game, but that doesn't really affect the university's bottom line.

Missouri companies know how to do it right (Cerner and SKC).

The problem is slowly showing up. A few years ago all the visitor seats that get sent back would've been sucked up in one day. Not this year. A few years ago Bama fans would have paid ridiculous money for the opener in Atlanta. There are still tickets available at face value. TVs have gotten nicer and cheaper and going to games has gotten more expensive (tickets, parking, concessions, hotels, etc).

With the massive amounts of revenue from sources other than ticket sales, it is time to eliminate ticket prices from being a factor for fans. $40 tickets or lower would solve a lot of these problems unless schools are just happy making more $$ in emptier stadiums.

True, and even then it's really only for the weenie teams that people leave early.
