Life expectancy of gay folks vs straight folks

I heard someone claim he read that homosexual males live an average of 20 years shorter than their heterosexual counterparts. Is this remotely true? I would think gays would have a longer lifespan because of how well they take care of themselves and all their pedicures and what not.

I think it would be a wash. The gays may take better care of themselves overall, but there's that handful that will die young from AIDS and drag the numbers down.

In addition to HIV, suicide is much more prevalent in the gay community.

I believe that gay people are more likely to be killed in anti-gay hate crimes than straight people are.

High rates of suicide stemming from societal rejection.
Also they have high rates of HIV because unprotected anal sex is more risky STD wise than vaginal sex.

Why would you think gay people take care of themselves at all? One of my old roommate's is gay and he's the nastiest dude I've ever lived with. In public he was a neat and sharp looking guy but his room was under three feet of fast food trash with half eaten food left in it.

I have been at Church(specifically Breakaway most Aggies will know what I'm talking about) and they spat out some ridiculous facts on homosexuality(which is especially funny because that guy is as closeted as it comes).
I'm sure suicide rates among the homos are extremely high, and skewed by the whole AIDs thing. I think in the long term you're right though, gays will live the longest.
Rates of obesity from highest to lowest:
1. Lesbians
2. Straight men
3. Women
4. Gay men
You see a trend? The more cocks you have to impress, the better shape you're in. Men are visual creatures.
