"(The SEC) it's even better than people say it is. ... to have to go on the road and win games - all the hostile environments and venues that you have to go into ... and that's what separates these (?) teams (sic) is the ability to go on the road and win."

On his wow, welcome to the SEC moment last year ...

When he realized, "it's a extremely competitive league no matter whatch're doing whether it's recruiting or practice or competition on game day. Just the overall grind of an SEC season. Every team has great coaches and great players."

"Now the standards and expectations are in place. There is a lot of positive energy in place now at Tennessee."

"We're going to have to jump the learning curve in a hurry."

He seems excited and realistic heading into the season. He says QB is going to be the strength of the football team .... yet he has yet to name a starter.

He says they are representing Peyton Manning and the Vol Nation at UT.

Expectations

Where is Tennessee right now?

"We've got the best fans in the nation. We have to focus on the power of one. One game at a time, one snap at a time, one play at a time."

"Everything is a matter of timing and Tennessee is in the right place at the right time and .... it's only a matter of time ..."

He can talk-it .... do you think Butch will walk it?

Yes it's a grind every week. Playing Bama, UF, UGA every year makes the schedule tough by default. Playing several SEC West teams is tough as well. That's why you don't fricking schedule @Oregon and @Oklahoma on top of that. I'm talking to you Mike Hamlton.

How many threads are you going to start about Media Days when there is already a thread pinned to the top.

There is ... but we're talking specifics here. Not necessarily what is going-on at media days.

For instance. Tennessee is the only program in the entire country that does not return a single starter on either the offensive or defensive line.

Sumlin said this is a line of scrimmage league.

What does that say about Jones' decision not to get some starting experience in the bag along his line of scrimmage last year during his honeymoon phase?

Did he make a mistake not moving some young guys up on the depth chart late in the season along that line?

Damn Pig feet. It took you nine minutes to snag this little fishy. You're starting to slack off.

Really the tackle spots are the only ones that will be completely fresh which definitely is a problem.

But Crowder redshirted last year after logging significant time in 2012, and Kerbyson, Wiesman all saw playing time last year.

Crowder is going to play center, and he's the closest thing to a returning starter you can have.

We definitely have weaknesses in the O line, but it probably won't be as bad as the gloom and doom most people are predicting.

Another problem is we're razor thin on the line so we'll be in deep trouble if we have any injuries there.

Anyone ask what Butch what his opinion on having a losing record against his predecessor is?

That's just my standard response to any arky troll. Us UT fans have a very limited amount of teams we can talk smack to at the moment.

I get that Professor, I do. But be honest ... you've got a honeymoon year. Why not play some younger players more often, work them into starting rolls, knowing full-well you're going to have to make your bones with those kids for the next couple of seasons.

I know that is what Holtz did his first year at SC. He didn't win a game that first year but man oh man the youngsters got a ton of playing time.

The next season he had the biggest turnaround in SEC history (at that time) going from 0-11 to 8-4 and winning the Outback against a highly favored Ohio State squad.

I'm just saying. The OLine, and Tennessee fans, given their history of excellent OLine play, should know this better than anyone ... the OLine requires experience and coaching. You might be able to plug some exceptional freshmen in along the DLine and make hay, but the OLine is so critical in the SEC ... it just sort of makes me wonder about if he might regret it now.

With that said, I do believe he felt he had one of the better OLines in the league last year and decided to ride it out with those guys knowing he needed every single win he could muster. So I guess that was the deciding factor in his decision making process.

It might cost y'all for at least two more years though ... we'll see.
