Well, not getting an invite to the NIT effectively ends the season for us:

#Gamecocks did not receive a bid to the NIT and the 2014-15 season officially ends with a 17-16 record for South Carolina.

USC sports information confirms that the CBI is not an option. The Gamecocks end 17-16, their first winning season in six years.

If USC turned down CBI, they weren't the only school. It's pay to play. Oregon State declined CBI. @willie_t_smith @GamecockMBB

Sucks when we were playing some of our best basketball of the season here at the end. But it's just another indicator that we can't be inconsistent, have to take advantage of every opportunity we get, and we didn't do that this season.

Still, a season that took definite steps forward. We'll see what Dozier, Silva, Bunch, and a healed Blanton can do for the team's fortunes. If Bunch can make it in academically, we'll have a 6-10 post in him as well as 6-11 Chat for one season at least, plus Silva who is 6-8 will also add some much-needed size. I'm excited to see what develops in the 2015-16 season....

Disappointed if we turned down a CBI offer. Bottom line is it would have been beneficial to our team

From William Gunter:

quote:

Just to pass along, the reason that South Carolina passed on accepting a bid to the CBI was the fact that the Colonial Life Arena was booked for the next two weeks. Obviously starting late this week there will be the Women's NCAA Tournament games and then next week the circus is in town.

Both Ray Tanner and Frank Martin agreed that while the CBI would have given the team an opportunity to play a few extra games and get a few extra practices under there was zero reward going on the road at any point in the tournament to play teams such Mercer, Hofstra or Delaware State.

This was not an issue of money or Ray Tanner not backing Martin on his wishes, it was just not a good idea to play if there were not going to be any home games.

Well at least the Women keep this thread pinned for just a little longer. Hoping they make a big push for the title.

Let's hope it carries over to Greensboro next Friday and we go on a tear that carries us on down to Tampa.

We'll probably have to get past our nemisis ... UNC.

We've not played as efficiently as I would have liked against both Greensboro opponents, but we've survived and advanced. Now we get to return home to familiar surroundings and focus on the Notre Dame-Baylor game. Don't know who should win this one, but probably ND. We'll see.

The team is shooting fairly well overall, averaging 56% shooting and 39% from behind the 3-pt line. We haven't done as well as I would like protecting the ball or boxing out for rebounds, but hopefully we improve on those as we go. Every step forward now is through uncharted waters, and at best I only hoped for us to make the FF, and we did, so from here on out I'll just enjoy what comes our way in the tournament....

Gamecocks go down 66-65 to Notre Dame in the Final Four.

Inability to hit FT's & terrible offensive sets out of timeouts cost us, hell of a run though.

Good season for the women. A trip to the Final Four was my expectation. They could've won that game last night, but I don't know what they were trying to do with Tiffany Mitchell. They should be Elite8, or better, level next year
