After winning 6 SEC games all year.. I don't hold out much hope to win 5 in a row to get to the NCAA tournament so what do we have to do to get a NIT bid?
I think we're capable of winning that 1st game, 2nd game might be against UGA right?

Frank won more games this year than last year, brick by brick and all that.

All I know is you have to be .500 to be considered, after that no idea

From Wiki:
They're picked via a committee.
quote:
Teams are no longer required to have .500 or greater records to receive bids. Even with this change, however, all teams receiving invitations for the NIT have had .500 or greater records.
Similar to the automatic bids the NCAA Tournament grants for all conference tournament champions, all teams that won regular-season conference championships but failed to earn NCAA tournament bids are guaranteed places in the NIT.
They're picked via a committee.

Teams not qualifying for the NCAA tournament have the opportunity to be invited to one of three other postseason tournaments:
•National Invitation Tournament - NIT
•College Basketball Invitational - CBI
•CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament - CIT
The NIT features a 32-team field chosen right after the NCAA chooses the 68 teams in its tournament. It awards automatic bids to regular season conference champions who do not otherwise go to the NCAA tournament. Also, the first 4 teams out of the NCAA tournament become automatic 1 seeds in the NIT.
The CBI features 16 teams and the CIT will have 32 teams exclusively from mid-major leagues or lower. The CIT requires teams to have a .500 record or better while the NIT and CBI do not have such a requirement. The CIT also doesn't place teams in a bracket, opting to place teams in matchups after the previous round has concluded.
Schools have been known to decline an invitation to the CBI and CIT tournaments due to the lack of interest in playing in a third-tier tournament (e.g., "We're Indiana. We don't play in the CBI.") or to the pay-to-play nature of these tournaments.
To get a feel for what kind of teams the NIT, CBI and CIT invite to their tournaments, these were the 2014 participants along with their record and RPI.
bracket matrix
based on RPI, these 4 SEC teams made the NIT in 2014.
49 Missouri
74 Georgia
77 Arkansas
83 LSU
Texas A&M was the only SEC school to play in the CBI at 17-15 last season with a 148 RPI.
Gamecocks were at 103 today before winning at Tennessee (92).

Women's Basketball take on the Tennessee Lady Vols today in the SEC Tournament Championship Game. Tip-off is at 3:30 pm and will be broadcast on ESPN. It will be the first time ever for the Gamecocks in the champeen game, but the 18th time for the powerhouse UT team.
The pairing pits the #1 seed (USC) versus the #2 (UT), and the co-regular season title holders. Their only regular-season game - a 71-66 win for USC in Columbia - was considered the SEC Game of the Season. Today's game is expected to at least match that one's level....

I thought the ladies totally dominated the vols in the second half today.
I hope they go into the NCAAs smokin' hot and peaking at just the right time.
If they go to Tampa I'm going to Tampa.

Neither Henry nor Sheppard will play in the SEC Tournament. You've got to wonder what their situation is going into next year, considering CFM has yet to even speak with them.

“I have not visited with those two guys," head coach Frank Martin said. "They will not travel.”

From todays VIP room on TBS:

Both players have turned in their gear and do not have plans to return to the program.

They haven't been in trouble before, at least that the public was aware of. They must have really fricked up. this probably wasn't like they missed a class kind of thing, or failed their 1st drug test...they must have royally fricked up.

Great win tonight, fantastic defense in the last 7 minutes of the game. They went scoreless until JW3 hit that 3 with a few seconds to go.
Surprisingly enough we shot 45.7% tonight from the field, I'll take that every game. Shot well from the FT line, made enough 3's. 17 assists off 21 made field goals.
Ty's gotta flush that game though, he did not play well at all.

Yep, we need Ty to step up tomorrow night, and need Chat to do better rebounding the ball: Missouri out-rebounded us 18-10 in the 2nd half. But a wins a win tonight, and we move forward. Unless we make a post-season tournament and lose in the opening game, we won't have a losing season. Let's have a winning one, now....

Yeah, 1 rebound is pitiful for him. I think they both will bounce back tomorrow.

DID WE JUST WIN THAT?!

That is one of my favorite wins this year, not that we had a whole bunch to choose from, but to win the way we did in the end...that was clutch. 3 seconds left and we come from behind. Amazing!

Here's an article about this year's 2015 NIT Tourney from Rob Goldberg of the Bleacher Report.
NIT Bracketology - Going into March 12th
This article and bracketology was going into today's games, so it has not been updated as of yet. For those that did not look, we are not in according to him. Only thing that I could find about the NIT predictions/bracketology.
He does have 3 other SEC teams in tho. All 3 of which went 1 & done in the SECT.
A&M (20-11)
Bama (18-14)
Vandy (19-13)

Yep pretty doubtful now that we rate the NIT...we would've had a thin but decent chance of getting in with a win over UGA. I guess the CBI would be a possibility for us?
We need to get the team at least to a point where the depth is such that we are not always short by 3-4 players come time for the SECT play. Then we need to improve at least to a point where we're not in the bottom 4 teams playing to start off the SECT, so we don't always have to play 3-4 games in a row to have a decent tournament showing.
I feel like the team has potential: it has been improving with each season, and CFM is about to bring in his best class of talent thus far IMO.
We need legitimate big men though - not big men like Chat. He's 6-11 and all that, but we got 6-5 to 6-7 guards and forwards that are more physical in the paint than he is, and he's not going to improve in his final year. It is what it is with him: and will be until he graduates and matriculates out of the program. We painfully need to replace him with a legit big, physical, somewhat athletic 6-9 or bigger big man - or two - who will bang a little inside. I swear the bigs on the WBB team don't shy away from the contact like Chat does. I'm personally sick and tired of it.
Then we need to establish some legit leadership. Carrera can be a leader as long as he continues to try and play smarter on the floor. Thornwell is another "it is what it is" player IMO: I'm done with him being in the leader, big-time player category for us any more. He fades away and disappears way too much to deserve those labels. Hopefully Dozier Jr. will be that kind of a player.
Let's see what happens now with any post-season invitational tournaments...

Just for the sake of the possibility of the NIT, the selection show is on ESPNU @ 8:30PM.
If we do not get in, the CBI will announce the teams that are selected Sunday night as well. I'd presume after the NIT selection show.
