This is the thread where we bury all the pain, negativity, and pessimistic thinking that is residual from last season.

This is pretty painful to watch highlights from last season from the opponent POV. I've metered each game that I found a good clip for using the expectation that Arkansas in 2013 had the kind of team Bielema is trying to build. There were some flashes, but zero consistency, mental mistake after mental mistake, and some very obvious not SEC caliber recruits from the 2010 and 2011 classes that we are depending on improving beyond their capabilities to have a decent year this season.

Texas A&M Evans abused Mitchel. Turner and Braylon Mitchell got punked all game. Even with all the mistakes made by our team, we only lost by 12. We should have been up 24-6 or 24-10 at half. I metered this game as a 41-27 Arkansas win.

Auburn We really shot ourselves in the foot all along in this one, every facet of the game we stunk it up making stupid mistakes constantly. The Herndon 5 step TD juggle didn't do us any favors, should have been a 20-10 Arky lead at half. I metered this game a 37-20 Arkansas win.

Rutgers Should've been a 17-3 or 17-7 Arkansas lead at half. I metered this game a 40-24 Arkansas win.

Southern Miss 0:44 I'd invite that family over for dinner anytime, I kinda like roaming around the stadium meeting fans from the other teams and sharing a snip from the flask. We won 24-3, I metered this game at 41-3 for the Hogs. game highlights

ULL 'Twas the opening game and Brandon Allen hadn't hurt himself on a retarded rolling dive into the endzone yet and we still had reserved optimism but it was optimism. We won 34-14. It probably should have been 27-7 at half. I metered the game a 51-14 Arkansas win.

Fabian Truss cuts us up
Samford We slopped our way to a 31-21 win and Rory Segrest got him a job. Should've been 24-7 at half. I metered this game as a 41-14 Arkansas win.

Florida Was Ark 7 UF 0 after 1Q, honestly 17-0 Hogs was in reach. Ark 42 UF 10 to start the 4Q was within the grasps of that game if of course our team didn't play like our team. The defense was pretty good except for crunch time on 3rd down passing situations where your DC has to make good calls and the secondary have to make plays. I metered this game a 51-17 Arkansas win.

South Carolina We lost 7-52, I metered it a 34-17 South Carolina win. Watch this one instead

Ole Miss Lost 34-24, Should've been a 13-12 Hog lead at half. I metered this game a 37-27 Arkansas win.

Couldn't find a decent clip from Bama fans, let's go ahead and call it a 31-10 Alabama win. Watch this instead

Mississippi St. So many opportunities in this one. I metered the game a 37-17 Arkansas win.

LSU Another one that we let slip through our BBQ greased hands. The Landry catch over DJ Dean was a no call offensive pass interference, so I assume the correct call was made and they don't kick that FG before the 99 yard drive to win. I metered this game either a 30-27 Arkansas win or a 30-30 tie at the end of regulation and who knows how OT would've gone, but LSU certainly had all the momentum and likely would've won in 2 or 3 OT's, but our goalline offense had them guessing wrong all game.

So in the alternaworld last year with sound playing and avoiding all the mental mistakes that separate good teams and shitty teams... yea basically I'm saying if we had been a good team 10-2 was a real possibility and 9-3 was probably where that team could have capped out at anyways.

I think even as bad as it was we can see where the improvement must take place and that should give us some hope that when Bert gets his pieces in play, and all of the Petrino kids are off the roster we could be back competing for the SEC and enjoying college football season more and not agonizing our way through it. Heck I enjoy it no matter what, but winning and being in the mix is definitely better than bumbling our way through a disaster.

Oh and the WR's really don't get enough blame for last season. I'm praying that Brandon Allen can be what he's supposed to be and the new WR and getting Wilson back will give us weapons we didn't have last year.

LB's.... we might not have had a single SEC quality LB on the roster. Otha Peters is honestly the only returning LB that gives me any hope at that position, I'm reserving judgement on Ellis. #34 just isn't SEC caliber. We need miracles at all of the secondary positions, I'm trusting that Bielema knows what he's doing and Smith and Jennings can get solid play out of those guys.

I was hoping to be more positive at the end of watching those highlight clips, but last year was just brutal and the schedule this season is just as tough but I see 6 winnable SEC games out there for us, we just have to play smart and not shoot ourselves in the dick constantly.

Yep. I've said it ad nauseum (and I've used the phrase "ad nauseum" ad nauseum) but the WRs don't get near the blame they deserve. We win the LSU game if they hadn't dropped eleventy billion easy catches that would've been converted third downs. If they catch just one of those passes down the stretch, we win the LSU game and the tone of the offseason is much different in our fan base and likely similar following 2008 going into 2009 after MoM II.

True, and I'm hopeful that our style of offense takes the pressure off of our defense. With the three-headed monster of Marshall-Collins-Williams coupled with a (fingers crossed) better performance from our receiver corps and additional growth of Hunter Henry, I'm optimistic that we can do a better job of extending drives this year. We need to last year's three-and-outs into mid-level drives, last year's mid-level drives into field goal opportunities, and field goals into touchdowns. We have to extend our TOP to help the defense while we're still in depth-building mode.

No flame...but just so I understand...you metered the game for Arky assuming perfect scenarios but left the opponents status as it was at the time?

I'm just a little confused. Surprising, I know.

Yes, all SECr stuff aside most Arkansas fans not on Hogville are always pretty level headed with expectations.

Let us have this one homer thread. Just let us.

No. Basically I assumed we were a quality team that didn't make stupid mistakes and made tackles when they should have, didn't blow coverages, limited mental mistakes, converted on 50% of 3rd down, stopped 3rd and long at an average rate, and the calls that were overturned against us actually went our way.

Like I said if we actually were a decent to good team and not a clusterfrick.

As a team we were just horrible the last two years. Definitely a dark era in Arkansas football. Getting blown out by quality teams was painful. I really thought we had the talent to be competitive but that isn't going to happen when we can't play football for four quarters--absent complete games we're not going to stand a chance against decent competition.

I thought we played better toward the end of the season and hopefully that will carry on into this upcoming season. Maybe some good catches among the WRs with improved play in other facets of the game will make the difference.
