Augusta listed as started at NG. Two SO starting at CB so far has me worried but I think Penton will be just fine. Don't know much about the other listed started John Gibson. Looking at the WR has me scared.

Why does WR have you scared?

Changes I saw from the spring on offense:

Rhodes and Chappell swap sides at the #2 LT and RT.
The lesser Hall moved from #4 at LG to #4 C.
In the biggest move, Crawford moved from defense to #3 RG.
Fairchild moved from #3 RG to #3 RT.
After that, noticed they dropped the 4th WR position on the depth chart. Probably has to do with the lack of depth. As it is now, 3 of the 8 players on the depth chart are non-scholarship players (unless Copelin has a scholly). Net result is Leftwich goes from a #1 WR to a #2 behind Sasser, making Laurent #3 at that spot. Copelin moves over to be #3 behind Hunt instead of Sasser and Otte.

Lots of unknowns with that WR group. Not one proven receiver. Hunt and Sasser (and to a lesser extent White) are the only ones with significant experience. 2 or 3 guys are walk-ons. Brown, Lee, Blair and Richard will definitely have the chance to push for not just playing time but significant time. Otte as a walk on at #2 is a prime spot for a freshman to step up (even though he's my darkhorse to make an unexpected contribution).

Thanks for the link Mizzou23.

On the defensive side:

DE's not much change.
Augusta must have impressed to move from #2 DT to #2 NG (or is Vincent hurt?)
Winston and Logan impressed a bit too, moving from #4 and #5 NG to #2 and #3 DT.
Brantley made the wrong impression going from #2 NG to #4 NG.

All kinds of movement at LB.
Surprised to see Ruise fall from #1 WLB to #3 considering he saw the field last year.
Brothers moves from the middle to #1 WLB and Burkett moved up a spot.
Scherer moves from outside to #1 inside LB.
Newsom moves from #2 on the weak side to #1 on the strong side.

In the backfield, biggest change is Sherrils from #2 CB to #3 S.

Same concerns as always. Thin at DE after our first 2. LB's are either a mess and they're moving everyone everywhere or some guys really impressed in the spring, warranting all of the movement. I'll hope for the latter.

Because they're big and scary. Also no big star names. Hunt only had 22 catches for 1 td last year. Sasser 26 catches for 1 td. 7 catches 1 td. Just no returning production for the three projected starters.

Augusta is listed as the starter. Not sure if it is due to injury or what but I think he probably is just the better player.

Don't disagree about being the better player. Really can't remember if Vincent had offseason surgery or not though.

Copelin was a mid 3* from Oklahoma and is definitely on scholarship. He had a big 50 some yard catch from Mauk in a game last year, he will figure into the rotation somewhere.

Thanks. Then that's some message being sent, being behind a walk on. I'm sure it's for motivation. Would love to see Leftwich stay healthy and come out of no where on people this year.

This team isn't really close to last years.

OL, WR, RB, And LB are far from what we had last year, not to mention a risk taking SO QB instead of a steady SR QB.

While I agree it is totally unproven and worse at WR & LB, I heartily disagree about the OL & RB. At O-Line Britt is a big loss but Copeland's loss will not hurt us. While like everyone else I love the Max C, story he battled to not be overwhelmed at times and cost us many hold calls. Gatti loked just as good or better when filing in when Max had that ankle injury. Josey leaving hurts our depth but between Murphy and Hansbourgh our depth and production should stay good. On offense I am worried about WR's lack of big play ability which may lead to teams stacking the run more hurting our running game. Mauk could then feel pressure to sling the ball which could get scary.

I agree with you about big play ability with WR. I don't see Hunt or Sasser being big play type guys. More consistent, reliable type guys. Really don't know what to make of White yet. Would have though he would have contributed already if he was all he was made out to be coming out of high school. I don't care who else we had. Really looking for Leftwich, Moore and Brown to provide the big plays and I don't know if it's fair to expect that from them.

I'm pretty excited about this team. I think the O-line is solid. All skill positions have good experience and capability. Our defensive front is stacked. D secondary is as solid as we've seen in a long time. My only concern is LB, but mostly because I'm uninformed about those guys.

I'm hoping we find a way to get offensive production out of the TE position. I love seeing an offense that has that dimension.

OL and RB should be just as good as last year. Assuming Morse can handle LT.

WR, I agree with you. LB, we shall see. Wilson was really good, but Bonner is just a guy.

Mauk>Franklin

Morse < Britt (at this point)
Gatti >= Copeland
Boehm'14 > Boehm'13 (experience/maturity)
Hall = McGovern
McGovern = Morse

OL is pretty much a push IMO. Starters all played a lot. Question is how they handle new positions. In the 2 deep, the only newcomers are Carberry (RG) and Rhodes (RT) as of now.

Mauk > Franklin (bigger plays but bigger mistakes)
Hansbrough/Murphy/Steward = Josey/Hansbrough/Murphy
Culkin > Waters

I think Mauk's upside is higher than Franklin's but we lose some even keeled steadiness like ST said. At RB, I hate losing Josey but think the overall production will be about the same. Don't know about blocking, but as far as offensive production, I expect more out of Culkin.

Sasser < Lucas
White < Washington
Leftwich < DGB
Hunt = Sasser

Yeah,looking at it like this, the biggest discrepancy this year is at WR.

I don't think we know really to be honest. None of those guys were given enough playing time last year to really tell. Hunt and Sasser both had BIG plays that I remember though. I think by the end of the non conference games people will be singing a different tune about the Tigers.

I just can't remember when our WR corps wasn't great. The last two times our passing game wasn't outstanding was with an injured Franklin and an injured Gabbert. I have a hard time worrying about WR.

Think Brantley also lost a bunch of weight from being sick, explains why he dropped on the chart. If he's lighter and quicker who knows, he might play off the edge some.

I'm not convinced we are losing a whole lot on the lines, and like the depth we have now. Flashy plays from the skill guys look great on TV but the lines are where we hold or lose ground. After spending much of the winter being skeptical I'm starting to think we can come back with another strong year like the last one and not have to step back.

You're absolutely right about Brantley. Forgot all about that. I think we have pretty good depth up the middle but until I see guys like Harris, I'm just not so sure about on the ends. Offensively? Not so worried about the line. All of the starters come back with some experience, though some at different positions. We also have a lot of young depth behind them where surely one or two of them could step up if someone doesn't work out. Just don't have that kind of depth at DE.

As for expectations this year...I don't know that we'll finish with as good of a record but I don't know if I'd call it a step back if we win 9 or so games. Just can't win them all every year. I'd be happy with that kind of year.
