Whatever happened to girl-watching at the swimming pool and beach?

30 years ago, going to the swimming pool or the beach was a great time to look at women in bathing suits and bikinis. It was a real treat for the heterosexual male.
Not so much anymore.
Now mind you...I'm not prejudiced against chubby chicks. I even prefer women with a little meat on them.
But today, it seems as if every woman I see at poolside is a shapeless blob. It seems as if everyone, and I mean everyone, is just fat.
What the hell?
Do people just not care about their figures any more? Have they just given up?
Jesus Christ people! Lose some weight! Stop ordering the biggie size of French Fries. Stop the pizzas.
Eat less. Exercise more.
Not so much anymore.

America's poor are all fat by the time they're 22 because of poor diet and jobs (or lack thereof) that require little physical activity.

I took driver's ed over the summer in high school, and all we did all summer was drive around to the local swimming pools to let the instructor(football coach) smokes cigs and ogle the girls. Great summer.
But I hear what you're saying. I'm a member at a pool and there's not much eye candy, but then it is a suburban family pool. There's a few hot soccer moms, but not many.

I was talking to my wife about this the other day. We were at the pool over the weekend and felt like we were the odd balls because we choose to exercise. We're not trying to be on the cover of a magazine level in shape, but we do live a healthy(er) life style.
To be honest, it seems more prevalent in the south then it does anywhere else. At least in the traditional southern states.

Not a very good case study, but my wife and I were in the drive thru of a packed Chik Fil A and we just marveled at the hoards of fatass blobs ambling in the door. Maybe 30 people walked in and about 3 were slender. Since that happened we've been looking more and more and everyone seems to be fat. Its just sad really. Like the OP I just think "CMON PEOPLE HAVE A LITTLE SELF RESPECT"

I was at the beach last week and there were a lot of hotties walking around. It was a nicer area though. But yea there were still some beasts waddling around.

It is expensive to eat healthy. Carbs are cheap, hence the reason you get fat poor people. its not the volume you eat, its what you eat. If you eat cheap carb heavy foods and dont exercise, you will get big.

You can eat healthy for fairly cheap if you want to. Most people just don't want to.

There are plenty of fat rich people too.
The pool I went to this weekend was in a rich neighborhood.

Portion control is just as big an issue. You can eat unhealthy small portions and exercise if someone wanted and stay marginally fit (it would be weird though). So the $$ arguement doesn't count.
